In picking up on OkiSteve's point, I'd also like to know what on earth is preventing the propaganda machine, AFN, from rebuilding the supposed damaged tower.
I want my AM 6.48.

From what I remember from Samy's post before, he's not able to talk about it, only that it's offline and they are working on it. So I think they are the only ones who know.

You are not even SOFA status are you????
Anyway, it is a funding issue. The funds had to be allocated, then a contract made, etc... these things take time and unfortunately the AM station is not that high on the list.

Funding issues are fine.
My impression was that the tower had been damaged beyond repair and had to replaced.
Thanks for the informative facts. It'll be nice to hear some NPR at some point.
p.s. non-sofa folks tune in, too, to afrts, am i right?

Like DrP said, it's funds. The thing was rusted to hell and once they were doing maintenance on it, it fell over. Now, their too busy spending money on hundreds of new govs to build a new tower, or let you have a take out box at the chow hall:thumbdown:

Yes non-sofa people tune in...I was just having fun with your MTV generation remark about "I want my AM 648!" (i.e. I want my MTV!)

Anyone remember KSBK on Okinawa? It was a commercial English speaking radio station. I think Japanese law did not permit a foreign radio station to exist within Japan, so after reversion in 1972, the station went off the air. Everyone listened to KSBK back then when it was in business.
