I was just wondering if eliminating the Halloween holiday would help in keeping kids in better physical condition, by stopping them from consuming large amounts of candy, which contributes to obesity. Their future health problems from obesity adds up to billions of dollars and is a burden on society. Another positive aspect would be reduced injuries/fatalities from children running around at night, and crossing streets in a disorderly fashion.

I think outlawing all images/cartoons of the Halloween holiday is probably a step in the right direction also. The depiction of a witch on a broomstick is highly offensive to women and especially Wiccans. Scaring children when they come up to a house has no positive benefit and will most likely leave lifetime emotional scars and the need for couseling.

Teaching children to fear "frankenstein" or "the hunchback" is instilling in them prejudice against those with physical defects. Parents who condone this should have their children taken away and/or be enrolled in a mandatory program on diversity.

Halloween should be replaced by a "fall solstice" period where children can hold hands and meditate about the earth and our place in the universe.

Sean Hannity is on board! He said on his show that Halloween is a liberal holiday, because it teaches kids to go around and ask for hand outs. Colmes relied that the republican Halloween wouldn't go over. Going door to door taking candy from people.
I don't care which way you swing, that's funny :))

(o.O) Uhm, I like Halloween. I don't recall ever thinking about it the way you have mentioned though. I wouldn't teach my child the things you mentioned either. It seem's you're playing devil's advocate though, which brings up interesting, yet negative aspects of the celebration. I see it as a way for children to not be afraid of some things and have fun. Recently as seen on the news, adults have celebrated Halloween more zealously than the children. Heh.

To note one example you mentioned though, I believe that the females I know who practice Wicca aren't offended by the cartoonish caricatures of witches. The people I know consider themselves Wiccans, not witches and warlocks.

Eliminate tv, computers and Xbox while you are at it. Encourage outdoor activities that require the body to move - exercise.

bwahahaha! I like watching those guys. They are both intelligent and respectful to each other even though they disagree which is a pleasant change from most political shows.

Halloween is not the cause of fat kids, consistent bad behavioral choices is. I wasn't fat as a kid and I ate rediculous amounts of candy and drank gallons of soda. I was highly active though. I kept doing one and stopped doing the other though. :(

Yeah, but only eat apples and such that have fallen from the tree.....I don't want to hear the tree scream when I tear the apple from it's branches! You have heard the screams, haven't you?
