i just have a question i keep hearing that Air Force cola rates are almost twice as high as Marine Corps cola rates. Is this true? If so why? we are all here in the same place buying the same stuff except that the Air Force can afford the higher priced items that Marines cannot unless we sacrifice something else not to mention unless you live off base the Air force has much better living conditions.

As far as I know the rates are the same. All military are paid by the same department, so I can't see how anyone would get more. Civilians receive the same cola reguardless of what branch they work for. I would be interested to know if I am incorrect.

no your right. I had a bunch of army guys come up to me and ask me why air force people make more then army people. Just kinda made me laugh that they thought it was true.

I find it hard to belive that their rates would be higher than Marines, since, as Dr. P says, we are all payed by DFAS Kansas. The pay charts and COLA rates are the same the world around. Its possible they are getting Comrats or a housing allowance.

If you are here unaccompanied and you are married, you will get BAH rates for the region your spouse lives in.

Usually the only reason that (it seems) as though the Air Force is making more money, it is usually because Marines can't handle money worth a damn!

I second that, in my experience, Marines are the worst with money. Just go to the barracks and look at how many 50" plasma TVs there are.

Also, alcohol is a big part of Marine culture, hard to belive? haha! Thats where some of their money goes.

I know this is totally unrelated, but does anyone have knowledge of what a GS 5 step 3 would make in COLA? (FYI: I am here as a dependant wife and husband is recieving full COLA)

All the pay charts are the same, the cola is the same....I wonder why Marines can't afford the "higher priced items"?
Have you looked at money management?

Not to mention that you only get half cola if you're unaccompanied. That might be why some people can "afford" high priced items.

I called a friend that works Finance and he said that we are all paid the same across the board.

I get my pay from Denver, always have. I don't know how you get your pay from Kansas. When I look at my direct deposit online, the title is from blah blah blah DFAS-DE DEN, CO AF blah blah I'm AF so maybe that is the difference. But we all get the same pay. Try looking it up online. It doesn't ask your service it ask rank, dependents, year of service and location. A little research will go a long way.

We AF guys all get a car bonus (that's why we all drive here). And, we get paid time and a half for overtime and double on holidays. Oh, single people get a monthly pimp allotment (that's why we are all players)!
