Okay this is my thrid time trying to write this. First off dont discuss anything classified! Remember OPSEC. I just wanted to complain about how my wife had to wait for an hour past the time i usually meet her to pick me up.

There i think that's safe.

If you're posted on Kadena, the answer should be obvious.

If you're new to whichever service that you may belong to, expect the same wherever you go in the future.

The Security Forces, of "Name your Base", have to practice their security procedures. So they run their drills, whenever they feel like it. Usually during the lunch hour, or anytime that you feel the urgent need to leave the base.

The Gates get locked down, usually only applies to the people who want to leave the base. People that need to get on-base, will be let through, provided that they have the necessary documentation to do so.

I'm just guessing, but that this is the problem that you are facing.

If, on the other hand, she had to wait because you were stuck at your job longer than expected, it's not worthy of a rant.

Of course it is worthy of a rant! That's his perogotive...he can bitch about it if that is what he wants...it might make him feel better!

But with that said, I also was caught up in the same mess, and caught off guard. No big deal to me though, I'm used to it.

My issue is the Japanese workers strike-If it's their government taking away their benefits they should go bother THEM because they are certainly not getting MY sympathy, especially when the make about triple what Americans do for some of the same jobs on bases and posts here. They are hurting people that live from paycheck to paycheck, all so the average worker can keep what is the average of $60 per month? Come ON!! I hate this island!

So if the guys at a Ford plant in the states decided to strike, you think they would drive all the way to Ford headquarters? or strike outside their plant? They do it to stop "scabs".

And have you ever been offbase?? do you have any idea the cost of living over here? Yes, they are doing well for an Okinawan, but not nearly what you would think.

I'm guessing your a dependant..

This part gives it away:

When ever I hear people whining and bitching saying how much they hate this island I wish I had the money to buy them a freakin' ticket out of here. If you don't like it, leave. If you can't, STFU, suck it up and when you get the chance pack your crap up and GTFO. This place is a hell of a lot better than a lot of craptastic 3rd world countries I've been to. Hell its a lot better than where I came from.

I was about to say. This place is a lot better than most places I've been to in the states. It's just small, and people are lazy and don't want to go out. I don't complain because there's nothing to do on this island. I complain because I don't have freetime during daylight hours to do anything. :p

Well, DougP, and dk, pretty much sum it up for me.

I almost went off on the originator on the thread "ILoveTheRedHotChillies"(sp?), but everything was going so well on the forums....

I've lived over here a lot longer than most of you posters, not continuously, but you get the point. Most of that time was spent in the military, or working for a contractor.

Having spent 20 years in the military, and 13 years employed outside of it, it was time to retire. I've been all over the world, thanks to the military.

There are some minor issues, but Okinawa, is as close to heaven as it could get while being alive.

Fourth and final time on the island. Don't really know what it was back in '75, that made me fall in love with this place. Maybe it was the people, the scenery, maybe both.

I know the title of the thread says share your complaints but I guess I am going to have to make an off topic reply here and maybe if I am lucky it will get split off into a new thread......... :-| :D

Things have been so cool around here the past couple of days that the only real complaint I can make today is......black doesnt hit when it supposed too and MH and DK have too many damn credits:eek: :D

dk

Yeah, but you have 1,111 credits. That's pretty sweet! :o

It's ok. I feel so free now! Those credits were weighing me down! :o

If I really wanted to, I could always just pull out 999,999,999,999,999 credits from the bank. :p I wanted to see if I could reach 1,000,000 credits on roulette though. It's possible, but those one-in-a-thousand/million chances where you lose seven, eight, nine, or more times in a row will kick your ass.

OK...thread back on topic now...

Where do you get your information? I would like for you to post anything possible to back up your assumption!

I dislike going thru the gates on Kadena. The old timers will remember the laced boots and tight uniforms of the past (late 80's-early 90's).
Now all you see is kids in wrinkled uniforms and chewing gum. I frequently feel like I'm imposing on a good game of grab ass when the female Japanese guards are working, and getting "macked" on by the SP's or augmentees. Once in a while there will be a more serious person at the gate, but it is becoming less and less common. The other day one at gate 3 an SP was actually rapping while the augmentee was dancing to it. Didn't even miss a beat to look at my ID card, give it back, and keep on dancing.
Everytime I hear the term Warriors for these kids..:barf:

DougP

Yeah not sure which I hate more... lax kids watching the gate or the break dancing salute/wave the car through the gate moves the SPs at Goodfellow used to do.:D Those guys looked like back up dancers for a Michael Jackson video

I agree with you for the most part, except the uniform part. Just because someone's uniform is wrinkled, doesn't mean they are a slob. A lot of people don't work in an office and work hard, and their uniform gets dirty and wrinkled.

Tanimaga
12-11-2007, 10:05 PM
Not just wrinkled..I wouldn't be suprised if a few had on 2 left boots.

DougP

Yeah true can't see a uniform getting too messed up in the process of standing at a gate.:D

There is that 10% that gets the job done...no doubt. There are those on the flightline that really earn their stripes.
Coming from an Army background, the gate security was usually straight and narrow though. No gum, no hands in pockets, no headgear on at a 15 degree tilt. They wanted poster boys to project an image.
When the Japanese guards look more like military members than they do, it just seems wrong.

Yeah, back to hating the island part. I had culture shock, no doubt, when I first got here but I just had to let it sink in. I didnt hate it, I was just out of my element. Now, I love it. Now I fear having culture shock again when returning to the states. You never realize how annoying people from your own country are until you experience them in another country. Things I once ignored because I was use to being around it now bug the hell out of me. Just imagine going back to the states and seeing everything that bugs me now..yeah, it will be all around me. No way to run away from it...lol. Ugh...I actually dont look forward to that.

This is so true. Example from this morning. 6am, walking my dog, dark outside and absolutely silent. Along comes a line of cars, most likely on their way to Hansen. The first four cars are "bumping" down the road due to their music choices. They were loud enough that I heard them 1/4 mile away!

Now it didn't ruin my day, but it did ruin the moment! In the states I wouldn't have thought much about it, but here it was noticeable.

You have to love those that are kind enough to share their music with you.

I do have to say that there have been many times I hear the loud music and thumping while on the road and think it is an American only to discover it is an Okinawan.

You aren't supposed to share trade secrets:w00t:

But they do cost more than a divorce that's for sure.

Hell you could get divorced here for damn near free.....married too!

So from that point of view hookers are "expensive".

When i got married in Nevada it cost us $45. I know it cost way more to get divorced.

Oh dear, people "hate" or want to leave Okinawa so bad,
and I would give my left nut (surgically removed of course,
ouch!) to get back to Okinawa.

Sad, how one person’s nightmare is another persons dream. :crying:
