We have a huge monstrosity, located just across the street from us.

It's called: the "United International Christian Faith Center".

So I'm thinking, what's the big deal? A bunch of church goers going about their business. They really don't bother anyone, so who cares?

So after about a month or so, we are starting to feel the impact of that things presence. Some relatives have come over this evening, and they had to park their cars a long way from where we live. Why?

It seems that their "Patronage", take up all of the parking spaces, anywhere near our building. :cursing:

It only happens on Sundays, both A.M., as well as P.M.

I'm not the only one within our area complaining about this. It just seems to me, that all of the vehicles taking up these precious parking places are Y-plated cars. These people are parking everywhere.:cursing:

The place is huge, they obviously have a lot of money, so some of that money should find it's way to the people burdened by their presence. If not, find some other place to park your vehicles.

If you have enough money to rent the place, you have enough money to build a parking lot close by.

Better yet, move somewhere else.:cursing:

I thought really devout religious folks were used to that whole pilgrimage thing. You know, walking hundreds of miles through a desert awaiting the next word from God. I'm sure having them park somewhere else down the way and walking to church wouldn't be such a bad thing for them. Have you confronted the group or the leader of the church yet? I would.

Excuse me but I think that handle belongs to Uminchu. I might however take a close second:dead:

Back to the OP, it they are actually parking in your parking spaces you have every right to contact the police and get them towed away. However if you dont want to go that far I would recommend calling them up and letting them know what their members are up to.

I know the area you are refering to and there really isnt a lot of parking that they can use, the church should have thought about that ahead of time.

If they are uncooperative call the cops. Other people dont complain probably because they dont want to mix things up, but I would be willing to be that others are bothered as well.

Valid points,people.

Actually, the place did not exist when we left the last time. And I have no problem with their organization, other than the parking issue.

Used to be a "Family Mart", within that building.

They are not taking up my parking space, or they would be towed. Rather they take up a huge part of the other parking spaces anywhere near that building, and that includes all of the parking spaces where one could be found.

Doesn't matter if they are valid parking spaces, these creatures are parking everywhere.:cursing:

Got a new camera as well, dk. Once I figure out the nuances, I'll be more than happy to post those pics.:D

Just ranting, about all of those Christian people, following the law of GOD.

I think that place was also a day care when you were here last time! You could do what I used to do at my old house.

Each time summer rolled around, locals would just randomly park in my yard and use the stairs to reach the beach. I put up a chain so that they couldn't park there anymore. Some of them got really angry about that one!

If they are parking illegally then call the police. I have a huge hatred for people that park on the roads or places that they shouldn't.. especially americans. They get the whole "Okinawas are so nice they wont mind" attitude..

Yep...that's it!

Ok...That used to be an Oki-Mart, part of a chain of now defunct grocery stores here in Okinawa. Some of which are now Union Supermarkets.

Outside of Naha and a few other places towns here in Okinawa dont tow or ticket cars for parking on the street. Which unless otherwise designated is illegal.

You would be well within your rights to contact either the Kadena police station, that big one near the Kadena Rotary, or the Okinawa City Police Station in Yogi, just across from Gate Two.

That area, depending on the address would be covered by one or the other police stations.

All depends on how far NBTP wants to take this?

I wouldn't worry the police, but a few flat tires may make people think twice about parking there again!

While the idea is probably appealing, I dont think that anyone wants to get arrested for vandalism.

One option is of course to sit outside and start charging people for parking too!:D

Oh, I wasn't talking about slicing tires...just letting the air out. No harm in that is there? No permanent damage was done, and I'm not sure the air inside the tire belongs to anyone anyway.

Are you serious? No sarcastic smilies or anything so I am not too sure.

If you are joking that's one thing, however even just letting out the air in the tires is malicious mischief. No permanent damage but still an arrestable offense.
I think you are pulling my leg here.:D

I feel you on this one NBTP. I finally won my battle against my housing agency for my parking spaces. It only took 6 months:rolleyes:. I would just complain to the people in charge at the church. I've seen plenty of churchs back home that who's congragation weren't allowed to park in the local neighborhood.

Question who was there first you or the church?

Ah but who pays rent? Him, or those church goers?

Tempestuous

Honestly, I would first contact the church directly and let them know their patrons are providing a nuisance to the local community around them. You could do it in writing so you can keep a copy for yourself.
Give them the opportunity to correct the problem.

If they chose NOT to respond to the issue, then look at contacting the police.
Maybe contact your neighbors and see if any others would be willing to go forth with you to voice an official complaint. And see what can be done.
They should not be so inconsiderate to take up parking spots of those that live in the vicinity or the spots that would be utilized for the guests of those homes.

I know parking is a HUGE issue on-island and we have to figure out how to compromise.....it the states, or at least our area, each business is responsible for providing enough parking for it's facility or has strict codes they have to adhere to. Are there such codes there? Are they "getting away with it" since no one seems to be pursuing the issue and is pretty much 'sucking it up' and dealing with it?

I live about 400m from that place and I am also feeling the brunt of that parking issue. Apparently they received permission to park at the Clinic and behind the Hokka Hokka Tei. but anywhere else they are just in the way.

but I suppose you could put your own literature that states you will start contacting the officials if they continue to be inconsiderate to the residents in the area by utilizing all parking spots created for the purpose of those residents.

I tend to get rid of parking problems in short order. My next door neighbor is a business and we had trouble with the customers parking in front of my house. I impressed upon them pretty clearly that wasn't going to work. (read, made quite a scene) the boss apologized I explained I placed no value on his remorse just his actions to correct it. He made a sign to indicate where to park, no more problems. I was impressed and thanked him for his swift effective response, we cool now. I do enjoy their faces when the customers of the restaurant across the street do it, like "uh oh, you are going to regret that" :D
I blocked in this mainland chicks rental car and someone had to come get me to move so she could run away. I don't know what the dudes next door told her but she was hiding behind them and wouldn't go to her car until I was about 20 feet away. I was standing their in my boxers at the time though.
I wonder if she had to the hubcaps I took off and chucked?

So you are saying that by voluntarily moving into an area with a tennant that behaves badly this person's trouble is his fault? That is an interesting way to think.

in a way yes it is. In another way he should also have the right to complain since he is an all time resident and not just there for services.

It's like moving near an airport and complaining of noise and traffic.

not really. An airport, a sewage treatment plant, a military base etc have certain unpleasant aspects that are unavoidable. Patrons who disrepect the neighbors and a tennant who does not take the responsibility to provide adequate parking for it's patrons is avoidable. I am sure if the OP had a party and his street was filled up with his guest's cars the neighbors would be just as put out.
The church is the antogonist here, not the OP.

A lot of interesting replies to my meaningless rant.:thumbup1:

Our visitors only needed two parking spaces. When the family shows up, knowing about the parking problems, they car pool.

Just got a little upset when they had to park up near the A&W, outside Gate 5, and had to walk all the over here.

It's only a problem on Sundays, so we plan on having most of our other parties on a Saturday from now on. Don't personally have anything against the people attending the services.

Some of you have pointed out, that it might be a good thing to go over there and talk to the people in charge to resolve this issue.

Well, it's illegal to speed on base, yet people still do. It's illegal to talk on your cell phone while driving, yet they still do. So if I go over there to complain about the parking problem caused by that church, the person conducting the services will advise his parishioners not to do that, but they will.

So if they actually do start parking in our parking spot, I'm thinking of printing out anything written by TP, and putting that under their windshield wipers. Especially as it relates to his animal rights groups.:D /jk

Christians don't fear Satan, but they hate being bored to death by meaningless diatribe. :D

Anyway, I consider this thread closed.

Dont you think its a bit strange that you have to change your plans because of parking probblems with people that shouldnt be parking there in the first place?

FDokinawa

I can understand not wanting to be non-confrontational about the issue.. but I would be pissed. All it takes is 10 min to go talk to whoever is in charge over there.. you dont have to get pissed or yell.. just explain the situation. You would be surprised at how bad people will feel when you tell them that your family had to walk half a mile to your house becuase people were parking in your visitor spots..

Or if you know your family is comming over ahead of time, just stand out there in the morning and dont let anyone park there.. or put up some cones, rope, something to block the spots.

I find it strange, only in the sense that the problem has surfaced again after we came back. I find it strange that, I, should be complaining about the problem, when I knew that it was going to be an issue when we moved back into our old apartment. Just venting.

It's not that big of an issue however. At least it won't be, until we come home and find a Y-plate, parked in my spot.

LOL. Best one all day!

Add "And now we have your plate number!" That should scare them for awhile.

Boy, I'd hate to have your problem. What we do is have our guests go to the local San-A a couple of blocks away, buy something for 100 yen and park for free all day!
