I bought an 80-gig iPod at Kojima at the end of March. The thing has worked like a charm up until last week, upon which time it took a dive.

I treat this thing with kid gloves, so I don't think it is something I did. The problem: After charging, as soon as it comes off the power source, either USB or DC, it immediately says it has no power right after it said it was fully charged.

I did some digging into some websites, and tried to troubleshoot it as best as I could, even reloading everything in "disk mode", which I take is the same as reinstalling an OS on a computer, then recharging again. Nope. Nada.

Anyone else encountered the same problem? I did read that the early generation pods did have some bum batteries, but surely Apple resolved that issue prior to the 5G 80 gig models?

I'm heading to Naha this afternoon for business, so I'm gonna stop by and drop it off at Kojima on the way. I have to find my damn receipt and warranty first, and I really don't want to have to search high and low for them.

Is there something I'm missing or didn't pick up on in my troubleshooting? More experienced pod users input more than welcome.

Peace,

BK out

Could just be a battery failure. Did fully charge and dishcharge the battery the first time you used it? Also, do you let the battery fully deplete before you recharged it? Or did you have it plugged in all the time and only let it discharge a little bit? Or do you only charge it a little bit? I think you might of conditioned your battery and gave it a memory.

Here is a quick solution. Don't buy an ipod:D I hate those things. I do have one, but it's old (no color screen) and it was before I knew how much they suck. I would take it back, and go buy a zune if I were you.

From what I've read, it's recommended that you not let it drain all the way down to nothing. I usually recharge when it's getting down there in the red.

Don't recall exactly how the first charge/discharge cycle went.

Thanks.

By the way, it's been a general trend in my life that if there is still a one-in-10,000 ratio of bad batteries to good, by God I will be the one to get it.

Such is my history with consumer electronics.:cursing:

My bet is on the battery. That is one reason I didn't get my son an iPod...I bought the kenwood instead and it can use rechargeable or regular batteries. Good luck!

No, you should let them drain all the way. But after they drain, make sure you recharge them. There is always a small drain on the battery, even once it's off. So if the battery dies, and you don't charge it, you will drain the rechargeable completely and it won't recharge again. That is why if you leave fully charged batteries in electronics and don't use them for a while, the batteries will be dead next time you use them.

Well, in all fairness, if he conditioned his battery it's his own fault, not the ipods. But, I wouldn't suggest buying one anyways. Like I said, go for a zune:thumbup:
