So Im watching CSI lastnight and with about 5 mins to go, they find what I think is the killer, then as the killer hits Grisom over the head...AFN switches to some ******* dumb ass ghost hunter crap. wtf is up with that? I would much rather not watch ANY of the show then for it to be cut off a few mins before the end. LAME ASS I tell you...LAME!!

much like the commercial voice overs during shows and games. AFN is #1.

I thought it was American Forces Network, not Air Force Network? I always thought it was the red headed bastard child of all the branches of the military, not just the air force?

I love it. They're a bit repetitive with their movies, but I'm too busy to watch tv all day so I barely notice. It only irritates me on those days when I do actually have some free time. I'll lay out on the couch, turn on the tv, and it'll be the same exact programming as a few days earlier... So I get up and do something else when all I wanted to do was stretch out on the couch for a few hours.

It's nice though.

I have skyperfect...I like it, but it seems like they repeat the same shows way too much! Especially Discovery Channel, and FOX. I had the NFL ticket for a while, but hated seeing the games a day late.

When did AFN Pacific switch to the Yokota version? I like it! They play a lot of the old AFN spots about "traveling in Tokyo" and whatnot.

You actually watch AFN cable??

AFN is not the cable service. AFN stuff is "pumped" into Mediotti. If there cable modems suck, then what do you think they have for cable demod/modulation?

Yes, if you actually listen to the command information that is being sent out, you wouls know DTH or Direct to Home is coming online. This is so people who use decoders offbase can receive local command information over the decoder. Therefor Channel 4, which was Prime Pacific, will be Yakotas' main channel. Okinawa's Pacific will be on another channel to be addressed later.

It will be informative because you will be able to see European channels as well, so if your PCSing going TAD, TDY you can see what going on over there.

Okinawas channel is going to be 21. And the DTH has been online for some time now.

This dude got it right. We have no control whatsoever with what is broadcast on TV. Unless it is a locally produced commercial or newscast, it wouldn't be our fault. Additionally, yes, we are pumped onto Mediatti. If you don't have it though them, you can still get the AFN channels without paying for the service. Some people seem to think we are one and the same. We have nothing to do with their other channels. Sometimes people call up here and tell me that something is wrong with their A&E or their MTV and they start becoming very rude on the phone. Those channels have nothing to do with us.

We pay about Y6000 a month, but we have about 60 channels and a few movie channels. There are cheaper packages.

You can pick and choose what channels you want...so you don't need a package. We pay about Y1500 a month for ours and have 5 channels.

Recently (the last 3-6 months) SkyPerfect has had a deal where you get about 70 channels for a little over 3000 yen/month. It's a pretty decent package, with all the English channels included.

My wife wants to get something like that.

Man, I am afraid it would be too addictive. Everytime I watch tv more than 30 mins for a stretch I feel like a blob who has thrown 30 mins away.

Kinda feel like that on the computer at times, too, but at least the computer is more interactive. I dunno, I am a news junkie, so I am sure I would enjoy cable if it had some quality news and documentary type shows.

Does it have animal channel, E?

If you're anything like me, you won't use it that often. About the only time I bother watching TV are on those rare occasions where I just want people to take care of EVERYTHING and just entertain me. In most cases, I feel the same as you. If I watch a stupid TV show for 30 minutes, I feel guilty for it. There's something better I could be doing. But then again, if I spend the whole evening working on my computer and then go back to the office in the morning, I feel equally bad if not moreso for not giving myself some rest.

Yup - 747 is Animal Planet. 741 is National Geographic. 370 is History Channel. 321 is Discovery Channel.

I can completely understand this. If your work overlaps with some of your play, the lines could get blurred and could make you feel at times you don't know where one begins and lets off, making you feel like you are either playing all the time or working. Perhaps you are feeling like the latter.

Bummer if so.

Edit: yeah, I see what you mean.

My problem is I feel like I'm working all the time. But that's a completely different topic. I do alright. :)

OK so i just want to say as stupid as the commercials on AFN are... some of them are pretty funny like the fire extinguisher one, and the cell phone one... theyre tooo stupid for you not to laugh at them.
that was totally off subject, but i thought i could voice a little bit of an opinion. Thanks

I hate those commercials with the little talking dog statue. They just annoy the hell out of me. I saw one of those statues at morlia in the hair dresser before the wedding, I wanted to throw it out a window.

That's not surprising! I think I'd like to throw that dog into oncoming traffic.
