Yup, that was my drink of choice back in the day. Do they still sell this drink in the clubs? It was made from Suntory D'Absinthe, which was pretty easy to find in the local liquor stores, not all of them sold it though. It had a bunch of other things in it, and a taste of black licorice, and after about 3 of those drinks, I was "whacked". :barf:
I might have to convince one of ya'll to send me a bottle.....or 3.

I haven't heard of a Purple Haze in years! I remember going to the Rolling Stone bar back in the 80's and they had the Purple Haze and Rainbows...

The Crazy Horse in Kitamae had it too, boy I haven't heard that name in years. Dont think I would want to drink any more of those today. :w00t:

So now I wonder how this "purple haze" drink taste like. Is it sweet like a mixed drink? I'm really not a fan of mix drink much, but definitely like to taste it. I never know I just might like it.

I remember me and my buddy had $5.00 each left in our pocket after a night of partying.....and it was like, "one more Super Purple Haze?......or a taxi ride back to Foster? Guess which one we chose? That was a long walk back. Almost slept on that grassy hill by the chapel. :barf:
Purple Haze drink has some other liquor in it other than the D'Absinthe. Maybe gin, and some of that purple liqueur too.

Naw, it's gotta have the D'Absinthe in it. But after doing a little investigating, I found that getting that stuff isn't easy. It's supposedly illegal in the U.S. If you google "absinthe" and "super purple haze", you can find out a lot on Absinthe. It's got quite a following. Mmmmmmm, I wish I had some right now!

I have never had it, so I was really curious what went in it.
Interesting.

purple haze
1 oz blue absinthe herbal liqueur
2 oz strawberry liqueur
7 oz Sprite® soda
Pour blue Absinthe followed by Strawberry Liquer into glass. Stir with a straw while pouring Sprite. Result should be a cloudy purple drink with the taste of a black jellybean. Best served chilled or over ice.
as soon as i get some D'Absinthe, i'll start making this and MOJO's at my club.

That one sounds like a Vampire. My friend liked to make those. She had a thing for the Chambord bottle.
Absinthe is/was big in the Hollywood goth scene. I had a bit of it poured over a sugar cube and strained when in SoCal, but couldn't get past that smell and taste. I think it was kinda like licorice, which isn't a plus for me.
It is illegal in the states though. I think it has a form of opium in it, so will show up on drug tests. I'm not 100% on that though. It amuses me that it's touted as a Bohemian liquer. heh.

We used to buy the Suntory stuff back in the 80's. I've read that the Suntory version had some ingredients substituted from the original recipe. I'm sure that the Suntory brand didn't have any opiates in it. I don't know how those rumors started, maybe the Absinthe had that back in the early 1900s. I've never failed a drug test and I've never heard anything from the military saying "don't drink this certain drink that has absinthe in it".

Okay, looked it up. It isn't an opiate. It's wormwood. It just sounds icky. Heh.

Interesting absinthe website... talk about speciality products! And how about that cannabis vodka? Must make a confusing high.
You can find a Japanese anise-type liqueur called Absinthe here. We used to buy the Suntory stuff back in the 80's.
Yep, that's the stuff. Cheap too.
It tastes just like Ricard and Pernod, so if you don't like licorice and anise it's not for you, but it's one of my fave hot-weather quaffs. 50 million Frenchmen can't be wrong, as the old song goes.
But - despite its name, it does not contain the psychoactive stuff. Most likely whatever they mix those drinks with in local bars doesn't either.

Yuck! Not a licorice fan, myself.
I also can't eat or drink anything that stinks.
(I am regularly harassed for smelling my food & drinks. :))
Don't think I will be attempting to find any of that stuff.
