The exchange rate on military facilities is horrible, I've been to Jusco and SAN-A, and their exchange rate is nearly the same, anybody know a good way to get the exact 122Y fair exchange rate?

Go to an off base bank. That is the best rate you will get around here.

I took a special trip to Jusco to exchange money for HokaHokaTei once, and I found it was like 1 yen higher than the on base average.

I think just this past week it was 118 on base and 120 at the jusco.

You want a good exchange rate, that accepts $100.00 bills and there is no limit of how much money you want to exchange?
Go to Big Echo in Chatan, next to it (left side of Big Echo going to Kadena) there is a place that will exchange money. Sorry don't know the name of it. Also they can send you email of their daily yen rates to you for FREE!

jusco is about 1 yen higher than japanese banks due to the fact your using a ATM. Banks have employees that have to be paid big bucks. The posted yen exchange in the paper is for international exchange between countries. it's always going to be 1-2 yen below that on base. that's how they stay in business.

Lucky is the name of it. On 58 heading north, turn left at the JOMO gas station. At the light, take another left, and Lucky will be on your immediate left. (right next to big echo)
This is the same place that is in the Koza music town faculity place...
There yen rate is usually pretty solid. Thing I like about it, its to the nearest cent. So if its 114.6, they give you 114.6, not 114...which when dealing with large sums of money (rent once a month) that .6 is worth a few more yennies. :thumbup1:

It is important for some people who knock on Community Bank to realize that if they have to drive to JUSCO, local bank, or some other currency exchange...they really wasted that extra money on the drive over! Unless you are dealing with large sums, as Honduh stated, it really isn't worth the extra 3 yen on a $300 transaction.
If you are like me and convert$1500 every 2 weeks, then by all means hunt out the higher rate, but for just $100-$500 why bother?

That would be ¥300 difference, not 3 yen, that's a free Oreo McFlurry just for going off-base. It doesn't cost ¥300 to drive over to Jusco compared to going to shitty community bank who is pretty much always 1 day behind the exchange rate. Like the past weekend where there was a 3 yen difference between on-base and off-base. I don't know about you, but why turn away free money no matter how much it is?
