...Anyone?... Anyone?
When I was out here a few years ago the was a cool little reggae bar in or near Ishikawa that a friend used to take me to... On the second floor of one of those small buildings you find near resort hotels. Dim light (very mood driven...), small dance floor, lots of older reggae with some Japanese stuff mixed in, not many Americans. None that were military types anyway.
...Not that that's a bad thing. Just get tired of not wearing a white T and my old, ripped jeans on my off time sometimes. Can wear khakies and a button down when I play golf with the "Old Man". Not when I'm winking at cute Japanese girls at the bar... Kidding.
If the location or my poor excuse for a description ring a bell, could someone let me know or at least tell me of some other cool, small, reggae joints around the island. Looking for something kinda on the North side of Okinawa...
...Wakarimasuka?

Great bar, right on Moon Beach in Onna Village (By Yumitan).
Its literally ON the beach. they have seating in the bar as well as on the beach so close that the water will roll up and tickle your feet. Usually play Reggae music with some japanese mixed in, just as the place you described. Great mood, atmosphere, and most important the Drink they make there, the "house" ones and the food is delicious. Highly recommend the "Midnight Blue" drink and a raddish salad.
And yes its a place where I wear a t shirt and some old jeans.
Have Fun.

Yeah... I know that one. Haven't been since my last tour though. I'll have to drop by.
Actually, that's pretty close to that other place I was looking for. If all else fails, I'll just have a good time there and give that "Midnight Blue" a shot... Chased by a beer... And another shot... You see where this is going.
Thanks for the info

Reviving an old thread but I also heard there was a good reggae place up in Ishikawa, but I don't think it is 'Coconut Moon', don't they play a lot of rock there?
Anybody been there lately?
And it is beside the Renaissance Hotel, so it is not on Moon Beach.

There used to be one at Sunabe, and there was a little one right beside Coconut Moon, back when Stevie used to play there and Coconut's didn't play all that much Reggae. Coconuts used to play alot of armchair rock, and tunes from the Okinawan Music Mafia, who the owner was/is a member of. The reggae bar was where Al's Yum-Yum Tree is now. That place was cool, had hammocks, grills that you could cook your own food on, a Skate board half-pipe on the beach where reggae bands would play every now and then. There was even the smell of ganja on the air sometimes. Then there was Beach Rock House 69 out by Tori Station. They had reggae nights and some Japanese Reggae bands also.

Thanks for yur post, Sexwax, you sound though as if you are talking about days gone by.
So what you are saying is that the only place which still exists is Coconut and they play some reggae now?? A mixture of rock and reggae i guess.

Coconut Moons is still a real cool place to go, and they will play reggae for you if you ask the bartenders. I like any where on the beach, and reggae and other caribbean music (calypso, soca, steel pan, even Jimmy Buffet) makes it more fun. There are still some other clubs that play reggae also.
