This has nothing to do with AFN, and much as I love Samy Fineman, I
think my favourite DJ ever is someone called 'John Kabira' who sadly
retired last year(I think!). He was the morning DJ at J=Wave, Tokyo FM
(don't have the wave length) but it is worth trying to find that station
and checking out some of their shows as they have some good one's.

He has the greatest voice ever. Originally from Okinawa, half american
and his brother is also quiet famous in his own right as a commentator.

My favorite DJ's are based out of Jacksonville; Lex and Terry. They are so damn funny and enjoyed listening to them before work. I would sit out in the parking lot till almost a minute till just because I didnt want to stop listening. Hubby downloads their shows from time to time.

There was a radio show I used to like listening to on AFN, Sat. nights here,
so I guess morning show in the U.S., there were 2 DJ's but I can only
remember the female was called Annie.......any idea what show it is Hollarey?

Doesn't seem to be on anymore:(

I havent a clue. Wish they had a show like that here though. They did some crazy things. They would go to random stores and ask for someone in customer service to announce over the speaker for so and so to meet their party at the door. The names would be hilarious.

Here's a vote:

DJ Weatherby as "Most distinguished 'Chode-Hound' in AFN History".

Even as I write, he's spiting the audience with his listless speeches and bastard tunes.

Yes, bastard tunes - they're the illegitimate offspring of his vacuous psyche and AFN's usual lineup of repackaged lyrical garbage. Here's a more vivid metaphor - it sounds like a gay demon raping a jukebox.

However, if some of the scuttlebutt holds true, Mr. Weatherby will be exiting the airwaves soon. The "reign of chode" will finally cease!

One of my favorite Dj's is the morning show out in Palm Springs, CA. I can't remember the names and the other is wild 94.9 in the bay area. Both radio stations played variety of good music and mixes. One of my favorite DJ for mixing is Dj Qbert!!! That guy is off the hook!!! Oh and Don Lynch!!

Dude, all you've done is bash this guy for months. What gives you the right to constantly criticize Weatherly's work? Have you ever DJ'ed?

Until you sit your happy ass in the studio and prove you can do better, it's clear that you're the real chode here, man.

Well...being a dj isn't that hard. Been there, done that, for 8 years! Working in radio isn't that hard, and it is really low stress.

But there is no reason for Zach to continuously run him down. I would love to see Weatherly go do a special report on "The_Zach" and run him down over and over about how crappy he is at his job! :D I think Weatherly does fine...I even heard the "new" guy today...can't remember his name. Something like Quentin Demusio??? Sorry if I spelled it wrong, but he actually did a pretty good job.

Some Guy,

I didn't realize my right to criticize public figures was suspended on the grounds of "feelings".

It sounds like you and Weatherby are quite close guy. Tell him when he gets over his yeast infection and spawns some testes to defend himself on this forum.

In the meantime, I'd be happy to host an AFN special report, "Every day is a miracle - I actually care about doing my ******* job." Here's why it won't happen - Weatherby is a slothful goon who clearly makes no effort to prepare for any of his shows, and naturally the audience suffers. His music selection is insufferable (and I don't buy this horseshit about DJ's not picking music sometimes). If you feel compelled to defend weatherby, then join the bandwagon o' chode, guy.

Zach,

The music is tricky. If you actually saw what we would start with on a normal day, you would get down on your hands and knees daily to thank the DJ's for playing something other than James Blunt, Corinne Bailey Rae, and don't forget about some really old Lifehouse that is strewn in at an unbelievable rate at times. It would almost seem as if I had the very same list every day I would start. And the list would suck. I won't lie-- I would very often switch out the music because it sucked. The tricky part is where you come in. I would try to play lots of different music, but I do know there are many who really like Weatherly's selection in music. To date, you may be the only person I have ever seen complain about the music selection he plays. He's a rock junkie, man. Lots of people, especially Marines, on the island like that kind of music.

Zach, what are your musical tastes?

Lots of people, especially Marines, on the island like that kind of music.

This reminds me of the time I was up at okuma and all the marines came in the bar and took over the dj. It went from nice chill music to death metal in a second. Now, I prefer rock music over R&B, hip hop, and rap. But I don't want to sit at a bar with my wife and her friends, getting my ears blasted out by pantera. Now if it's fujiyama, then that's a different story.

Nobody is trying to "suspend your rights", freak. We just want to unearth the motive for your unhealthy obsession with bashing a particular DJ.

After reviewing old posts, I'd be willing to bet you're just some desperate loser reduced to impugning people behind the convenient rampart of online anonymity. Sorry you didn't make the varsity squad, junior, but there are other places to work out your issues.

In the meantime, lay off the personal attacks. I think it would serve the forum well if you were ultimately censored.

Thank you for that stunning analysis, Dr. guy. *applause*.

Meanwhile, I'll address all your questions/points.

Why label my criticism "unhealthy"? Is it somehow "unhealthy" to list obvious faults in a broadcast program that has far-reaching consequences for the entire audience? Is it "unhealthy" to prod someone who doesn't have the guts to engage in an online forum? I mean, this is the ultimate platform for discussing ideas, and more importantly, UNCENSORED dialogue! Someone who refuses to defend themselves is either a moron or a coward! I mean, enduring the crucible of invective on these forums is the ultimate test of brains and balls, in my humble opinion!

Guy, you dismissed my words by stating I hide behind the "rampart of online anonymity" - what the **** is a user named "some guy" doing accusing people of being anonymous?!

Here's an idea, guy - tell your life-partner weatherby to bring his ass online. We'll discuss radio or the results of his Pap smear or something.

Samie, I understand you feel obliged to stick up for your comrade-in-arms, but it's a lost cause. If anything, I hope you distance yourself from his "tour de chode".

I feel inspired when listening to Richard Wagner, especially during copulation with a woman of Rubensque stature. Otherwise, I'm listening to new age or classical, if you must know.

Holy spelunker, do pray for me - my soul is careening towards a premature meeting with beezelbub, and weatherby's show, along with his accomplice some guy, are serving to exacerbate my deteriorating spritual condition. In fact, widespread flagellation may be in order to correct my state. Hopefully divine powers will intervine and smite these evildoers from existence.

I'm actually hoping to make the "hell of a band" in heaven. I believe scotch and more "guitar hero 3" is in order. Good night.

Alright, I've decided!!! Any DJ you guys hate, is now my favorite. So a combination of Weatherly, Aries D, J-Noise, and Amber Watson is my favorite DJ.

Hey, the world's going hybrid, so why don't I give it a shot?

In all honesty though, they're all very good DJ's. In Amber's case, she is a news announcer, and you should look for very good products from her in the future. She as a lot of potential as a broadcaster, and she's brand new. This girl has a lot on her shoulders, and I believe is handling the pressure immensely well. She will be a great broadcaster. Don't bring her down to your sorry depths.

Aries D. is probably the best radio DJ I have ever personally seen on the air. This guy actually has to take the phone off the hook it rings so damn much. He is a great quality DJ. He has a real specialty show. Isn't that what you guys want? Specialty? Yeah, you may not like the specialty, but I know many do. In the states, you would change the channel, but here you can't. He has a real talent, and you could hate, but you can't really say he sucks.

Weatherly is another dude who has a specialty show. He's a prick and talks about random things, can anyone say...uh....Jim Rome? He has an extensive vocabulary and gets the audience involved. He has a pretty cool show.

I'll give it to you, J-Noise probably needed a few more months, but she progressed very well during her time in radio.

Until you hop on a mike and get the butterflies in your stomach, say "uh" a few times on air, lose your train of thought while live, or have a very extended pause, you would never know how hard it actually is. I personally think DocP has his head up his ass on this one because not everyone can be a DJ. Try it sometime on your own: get a tape recorder and start saying shit like the yen rate and time and everything. Try to talk for 2 straight minutes without stumbling and while keeping a rational train of thought. Then let the thought sink in that the whole island just heard your little mixtape. It's kinda scary, huh?

And it's hard to listen to yourself later too. It is a stressfull job, don't let DocP tell you otherwise, and remember: These DJ's never chose to be here, they're just trying to do their jobs in the Military. Give them a little leeway.

Read the title, it says BEST DJ ever. Not BELITTLE the talent.

Lots of military members never 'chose' to be here, and they get a lot more than a little criticism when they fail to do their jobs, or do them poorly. When an engine mechanic for an F-15 fails to do his job(maybe leaving a tool in the engine or something), a pilot might die. That mechanic is probably going to jail for not doing his job, not to mention he has to live with that for the rest of his life.

Part of the responsibility of the awesome job you guys have is responding to critics in stride, letting it roll of your back. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and this forum is like a toilet where all crappy opinions get flushed. You shouldn't take it so personally, and be thankful that you're not J-noise!

Yeah, I am glad I'm not J-Noise.

Retrobutionnk, I do know that there is a lot of criticism. And I do know that's a part of the job as well. I mean, we are a public medium, the public has to respond in some way. This is just how I feel. No one is picking at me personally, but they are picking on my teammates. I feel I should give you some insight as to what it is like being a DJ. Many make it out to be so easy, but there really are a lot of buttons to learn, music history, current knowledge of music, learning how to time out an hour, appropriate breaks, and much more.

I probably shouldn't care, I'm getting out the of the military and don't even really work at AFN anymore, but it does kinda irk me when I feel someone is singled out.

My 2 cents,

Samy

Samy

This thread just won't die...

It's a recurring trend here: Sammy/Sami/Sammi/Samy/Sammie/Sammee is sticking up for "DJ Rimjob" weatherby.

First things first, though - Holy_Diver, it's good to see weatherby's half-assed attempts at comedy come into question, but save your prayers for everyone's sanity, because his shitty show is sapping it away.

Sammy/Sami/Sammi/Samy/Sammie/Sammee:

You hypothetical "mutant DJ" is a grandiose nightmare that would dwarf the visceral horrors depicted in film classics like The Fly and The Thing
I did come up with a name, however: "Satyriasisprickduhcoquitabanana".

I agree with your assessment! Weatherby is a prick! You managed to understate his condition, but you're definitely on the right track. Here's a suggestion for your next attempt: "Gargantuan prick vomiting vile malevolence on the radio at all times."

In regards to your "tape a DJ sample" idea, I decided to sit my ass down and imbibe some alcohol in stead of undertaking your laughable suggestion. In addition to being commited to my crapulous habits, I take pride in making well-informed long-term decisions. Becoming a broadcaster, particularly in the military, is a serious decision. Someone lacking the necessary basic skills (speaking ability, basic reading skills, aptitude for impromptu comedy, etc.") would make an informed decision not to enter the field. Since weatherby's egregious lack of talent is so readily apparent, it's clear he is in denial of his unhinged suckiness. Furthermore, it reflects negatively on the entire military broadcasting education system (whatever the **** it is) when instructors fail to address future failures like weatherby at their inchoate stage of developement. Talent and diligence (not necessarily in that order) are always evident in a performance-based profession like broadcasting. Audience members can make allowances for deficencies in one area, assuming the on-air talent can overcompensate through either hard word or raw talent. Weatherby possesses neither, so I'm compelled to address his failure here until he's off of the air.

Besides, so much of DJ'ing is automated nowadays, right? I hear you guys complain about the music on this forum, but how hard is it to push buttons and repeat a few announcements? And the interviews? They're an embarassment! Weatherby's guests usually sound mortified at his asinine questions stemming from his total lack of preparation. It's a joke!

Oh, you're stressed? I'm sorry. Do like I do - have some scotch!

Take silent approval and shove it up your ass, Zach!

Your bitterness bleeds through every word you type on these forums. It's downright unhealthy, if not a bit creepy the way you stay focused on Weatherly. I think his show is alright, and you're just being an asshole, and I'll explain:

1. You've clearly never DJ'ed.
2. All Indications are that you're unemployed, or working a shitty job
3. You never praise any of the people at AFN. It's a poor technique to level constant criticism without any positive pointers.
4. No one takes you seriously. You're just making a joke of this serious forum.
5. You need to spend less time on this forum, and more time with the opposite sex (or who knows? maybe the same sex).

ZING!

Guy is bringing out the "he must be an awkward nerd/closeted homosexual" jokes! I love originality!!!

I have gotten anebriated on a few occassions (scotch is potent stuff - not to be underestimated), but I've never reacher the point where I suddenly start questing for dick instead of the usual female pleasures. Nonetheless, if you're questing for dick, consult with your boy weatherby - he's the universal authority on chode, so perhaps his grasp on matters of the shaft extends to a firm hold on the longer, wider reach of penises.

Let me address your numerically-valued points:

1 - I never want to DJ. Listen to AFN - neither will you!
2 - I make enough money so I can sit on my fat ass drinking scotch and wasting time on this forum.
3 - Here's some praise: I do listen, in spite of it all. Oh, wait, it's my only choose. **** it. That should be AFN's slogan: "We're you're only choice, so **** it!"
4 - You mock this forum, scoundrel! Try scanning over the range of topics in this forum. It's a boon to Okinawa, and my presence is a colorful addition that most people accept as more than just entertainment - it's the truth!
5 - Ok, I like the BBW, so I probably get more square footage of ass than most. I'm pulling in the acres when some guys are lucking to get the square inch! (Don't hate on the big girls!)

So, guy, when you're done wiping aways weatherby's tears, and you're enjoying each other's company while watching The Crying Game, just ignore that impulse to post on this forum, ok?

Samy

Samy, Samy, Samy...you are so right...not everyone can be a dj! That is a lot of peoples point here. Yet they are on the air anyway aren't they? It is not a hard job. I will admit it can be stressfull the first few times on the air, but you get used to it quite fast and it is actually a fun job. Much better than slaughtering pigs I would guess...would you agree?

Since you brought up reading the yen rate and time...why does every dj on AFN insist on reading the time 17 min past 7 o'clock, 33 min past 7 o'clock?

Rule of thumb. You only do that to times that could be misunderstood...say 7:15 and 7:50...the fifteen and fifty could sound similar when said over the air waves so instead you say 15 min past the hour, or 10 minutes until 8 o'clock....that's the norm. Listen to other dj's and see what I mean. It is perfectly ok to say it's 7:33 and the temp is 83 degrees...and much easier than 27 minutes before 8 o'clock and 83 degrees.

Another good idea, which some do and some don't, is read your readers before going on air so that you know what is coming...less chance that you will stumble through them!

Oh...and don't worry about 'ol Zach...I'm pretty sure he is just some group of punks pulling your chain, or someone with a serious multiple personality disorder.

Since you brought up reading the yen rate and time...why does every dj on AFN insist on reading the time 17 min past 7 o'clock, 33 min past 7 o'clock?

Doc, never our choice. That is something dictated by leadership. They want Time/Temp/Yen Rate almost every break. Nothing we can do about that. They say that we have to catch anyone who could be getting into a car or turning on their radio at any time.

That's also another thing. Before 30 past, they want the number, like 27 minutes after. Then, after 30, for some reason, they want it like 27 minutes until. Oh well, sometimes I double timed people I would say something like," It's 33 minutes past the hour which is also 27 minutes to the top."

I finally get a chance on my lunch break to check the forum, and then I see some slanderous filth laid down on the threads by Zach. Let me set the record straight:

"Holy_Diver" is an alias used by Zach as another means to antagonize weatherly.

Zach is a ****** (paragraph removed by mod)

I think his distaste for AFN stems from road rage. Most of the AFN he hears is while he's driving, and so just about any sound he hears while navigating the roadways will register pretty negatively in his mind.

He hoards the ******* alcohol, and he insists on watching "Rome" OVER AND ******* OVER!!! I'm watching "24" tonight!!!

I won't even go into his other issues - let's just say the DJ's shouldn't take any criticism from this guy seriously. Oh, and if he even thought about trying to DJ, it would be so horrible that it would probably cause the de-evolution of humanity, and the eventual downfall of civilization.

And keeping true to this thread, I like all the DJ's, and I appreciate their hard work, in spite of the bullshit pressure from their superiors that samy talked about in previous posts. In fact, all I know is when I call with a rock request or something, they almost always find a way to play it. I think Zach just requests shitty music, so good on the DJ's for not playing it.

You should start reading the time in hours and minutes until midnight. And read the Julian date instead of the regular date. "Today is Julian day 18 and its 8 hours and 31 minutes until midnight."

Mmmm... Girl scout cookies are so tasty, especially when they're guy's girl scout cookies... frozen mint delights... gooooood...

I'll address each of the allegations put forward by guy:

Ok, I'll admit I could be a more "attentive" driver, but I have yet to cause any fatalities. However, if I'm ever killed in a fiery auto crash while weatherby's show is on the air, you'll know why it happened. In fact, AFN is the chief reason I drive poorly; my poor driving is not why I hate AFN. I hate it because it keeps "dj rimjob" weatherby on the air.
Find your own goddamn scotch, guy. Weatherby's show has infected your psyche, so you're starting to compulsively whine like a bitch whenever I watch the finest example of historic drama in television history!

I've stated that I have no intention to become a DJ. Never. As an audience member, I retain the right to criticize poor broadcasting because it affects me every day!

I don't try to make requests anymore, because I couldnt' keep my composure when speaking to that clown. My musical taste is exemplary, by the way - just reference my previous post that answered inquiries into my musical preference. It's on this thread.

I'm going to keep drinking and playing command and conquer... and eating his damn cookies! Yar!

Welcome Todd!

I hope you have more balls than your peer, DJ weatherby - thus far I'm impressed that you've even shown up for our online crucible. You are talented, but it remains to be seen if you'll withstand the red-hot poker of online criticism that's inevitably going to be jammed up your rectum. Some people just can't hack it.

Also, I must address the quote, "Some people have a natural talent on the air. Some don't. In fact, it most people don't." Despite the glaring grammatical error (the "it" thing) it contains a striking truth: DJ's like weatherby suck ass and should be removed.

The Seahawks should change to the "Haemorrhagic Fevers" - that would strike fear into the opponents! The mascot could be a rhesus monkey spewing fake blood from every orifice. We should petition their front office...

Scotch is great for any age, so your thinly veiled accusation in the form of an innocuous inquiry is irrelevent.

But out of fairness to your question, yes, I am of "legal" age.

So,

You leaving the forum now? Weatherly had his last show today,

What's up with Weatherly anyways? Why was today his last show? I wanted to call in when he was on, but didn't get around to it. Shame really :(

He's separating from the service. He has to leave soon and has lots of outprocessing to attend to.

Good Riddance, DJ Weatherby...

Airwaves now free
Ears no longer raped
Ass-hat departure

Admittedly, my zeal for ridiculing DJ weatherby will now vanish with his exit. I will have to find another pursuit to focus my energies... :(

Yeh, that would be nice. Maybe you can multi-task - good cop, bad cop kind of thing.

I never heard DJ Weatherby meself, but I sure understand that AFN locally deals with a wide range of 'talent'. The depth of your emotions about the DJ approaches my own feelings about the PSAs.

Why do you say that? Because I'm actually educated on the services of AFN, because I have done 3 consecutive overseas tours from 2000-present. I've learned to appreciate what they offer, since it has no bearing on me or my money. I am an Electronics Maintenance Technician, and there are special tech positions within AFN that I am familiar with, and may have the same AFSC.

time to spill the beans. since you all are in limbo and want to know who I am.

I do work there. I am a Maintenace Technician. Its Special Duty for my career field...so yeah, I'm not on TV, the Radio nor control what you see or hear on your TV/Radio. I make sure the equipment that receives and the equipment that feeds out is maintained. Let it be known i have NOTHING TO DO WITH OPERATIONS or your home decoder setup :cursing:

So for you AF peeps, its the 2E1x4 career field. Yeah, othwerwise we work on Sensors for "HOT" stuff, or Sat Maintenance, TV Maintenance, Broadcast Maintenance, Photographic Maintenance, and PC Maintenance <--- yes we have 2E2 tasks all over our 797s

So, your identity is revealed...

As a technician, you are culpable by association in your support of AFN radio broadcasts, particularly DJ weatherby's shows.

You are hereby awarded the title of "ass-hat lite". It's an honorary title, really - if you persist in your duties you might even join weatherby in the "Hall o' Chode".

Here's a sample write-up:
For distinguishing himself in the field of technicianshipmanship, A1C Slickmetal has hereby earned the Air Force technician's highest honor - the distinguished cockring for gallant support of ass-hatness above and beyond the call of duty. His actions are a credit to ass-hats everywhere.

Some might dismiss my comments as churlish nonsense, but they are merely brave efforts to heighten awareness of the world's problems, starting with the looming ass-hat epidemic! Remember - someone has to have the gargantuan, earth-shaking, mammoth man-stones to anonymously challenge evildoers in an online forum. I'm making the world a better place, and noone will convince me otherwise!!!

how many sips of scotch did it take to write that? Wow too bad I really don't work there...I know the techs that do, so I thought I would just make the spider web a little more messy, with all of you tangled in it.

but wait, I think your identity has been revealed now. I remember going to the Rocker for brunch...I thought I saw you making balloon animals for the kids, in your drunken stupor...maybe the real clown had the day off...is that why your so aggrivated over the clown show...now get back to work, on that bottle you slumstress.

That's a clear violation of the aforementioned rules 55 and 10,001:

JU Forum rules 55 and 10,001

55. Do not judge other user's lifestyle choices, especially since you're using an online forum in the stead of normal social interaction.

10,001. Scotch is the official beverage of Japan Update. Users are encouraged to imbibe this blessed spirit whenever possible. The blessed overlord of JU, L. Ron Hubbard, grants unlimited blessings on users who drink Scotch. Long live L. Ron!

And it also violates rule 987:

987. Clowns are the satanic offspring of Beezelbub and Carlos Mencia. It is a serious offense to label fellow users as clowns. Proof must be provided in uncontaminated, unaltered visual evidence as well as a written statement notorized by at least three witnesses of clown-like behavior. JU Forum defines clown-like behavior as follows:
a. The wearing of make-up, not unlike a transvestite or sexual deviant.
b. Continous, uncontrollable laughter that creates an atmosphere of general awkwardness.
c. Adorning oneself in clothing so viscerally abhorent that even Europeans would not wear it. (this is a circumstancial clause - homo- and metro-sexuals are exempt).
d. Particularly deft ability in the shaping of balloons.
e. Association with known clowns like Ronald McDonald, Michael Jackson, and the ghost of J. Edgar Hoover.
f. Other behavior will be assessed on a case-to-case basis.

Failure to produce said evidence by the accuser gives a 99.7% chance that said accuser is in fact a clown, with likely proclivities to cross-dressing and other clown behavior.

The_Zach was summarily banned in the early morning hours, and I’d like to celebrate this event.

First, Zach was a constant nuisance on the JU forums. His infantile humor, derision of other users, and an unhealthy abundance of disrespect for authority helped him earn the ire of our benevolent overlords.

I want to personally congratulate the administrators involved in banning Zach; this was an act of tremendous personal courage – banning a witless smartass from a largely anonymous forum is absolutely necessary if structure and/or order are jeopardized in the least. I believe firmly in authority, especially on the internet.

There is clearly no greater threat to authority than the material Zach recently posted, which even went so far as to include the lampooning of JU rules and a poem (a bad poem, at that) denouncing our fair administrators. These words signal a burgeoning threat to our online utopia here at JU – the threat of free speech.

Don’t get me wrong – I appreciate the first amendment, but it has no place on an online forum, particularly when considering the healthy respect for authority figures that should be imbued in every JU user. When my great-grandchild sits on my knee in future decades, and asks, “Grandad, what is bravery? Oh, Grandad, I pooped again,” I’ll just smile and say, “Good poop, Johnny. Bravery is censoring an online menace who challenges structure and authority in the most serpentine manner – satire. Truly, there is no place for satire in the sacred halls of JU.

Zach explained his initial punishment for the infractions was, “Roughly one week”, for, “Spamming and disrespect to administrators.” I have to glance away from the screen to maintain my composure. I am a geyser of anger ready to burst! There is no way this worm is slipping through the cracks after criticizing our fair and benevolent administrators! You might as well write people tickets for possession of marijuana, grant parole to felons serving life sentences, and just charge hefty fines for white-collar criminals!

Fortunately, other like-minded individual has the moxy to act on their intuition, and courageously took steps to permanently ban the foul villain. His literary bile will no longer trouble users; no longer will we endure cruel, callous phrases like, “The parade o’ chode.” I am proud to stand by the decision of our fair and benevolent administrators – God save them all, and to hell with Zach!

On the contrary, the absence of his constant, uproarous dissidence will serve to usher in a golden era of serious discussion - about serious topics.

We will no longer endure the loathsome rants which he spewed forth without hesitation.

Hail the administrators! Hail Japan Update!
