I have a nieghbor thats pregnant and looks like an old locomotive. I always give her a funny look but never say anything. My wife sees sailors that are preg and smoke but she doesn't say anything either.
Is it anybodys business to say something or have you said something to one of these people?

Unfortunately it is non of anyone else's business. It is sad to see, but not much that can be done about it. If that person hasn't already quit, I doubt that there is anything anyone can say that will convince them now.

These pregnant women that you see floating around, if they don't listen to their doctors, what makes you think that they care about what you have to say?
Not trying to be rude Fonze, but that's about the reality of it.

I told my (ex) best friend once, she was smoking almost 8 packs a day, she didn't care what happens to the baby, she kept telling me you only live life once, you need to party all you can until you die.... She always had the cigarette in her mouth, puffing away. My ex friend died and her baby girl was born at 33wks as emergency, born with severe lung problems and died a few days later.

Maybe some poeple will listen if told not to enough by many people. Dont Japan have the culture of shame? Some will listen. Some will not. But, poor baby. Doesnt the baby have any rights?

It saddens me once I see pregnant women smoking. Just because your health is ****** up doesn't mean you have to screw up your unborn child's health. I feel the same way once I see some kids parents smoking around their kids.

I also notice at dragon palace where the adults play games there is always a ton of kids in the shadows of smoke and the parents don't mind one bit.

Brings up another good point.
Nobody cares about the health of the respective parent (either side), while in the process of creating the child.
Everybody seems to be focusing on the health of the mother when she gets pregnant, what about the health of the husband?
When a child is born, and it has a health problem, the fault seems to default to the mother. It never seems to focus on the husband, or the bad habits that he used to have, before the couple got married. It's always the mothers fault.
It seems to me, that if you're lucky enough to be able to bring a life into this world, you should be responsible enough to take care of it. No finger pointing, just take care of your child. If your child is perfect, fine. If it's not, that's fine as well. But it didn't get here by itself, and the father might just be to blame for the condition that this child is enduring himself, instead of the mother.
Just a thought.

A pregnant woman who continues to smoke through her pregnancy is an effing idiot. :cursing: A husband who continues to smoke in an enclosed space with his pregnant wife in the room is an effing jackass. People who smoke around kids are effing rude bastages. (disclaimer: personal opinion)
I smoked until the night that EPT proved I was pregnant. My husband still smokes, but does so outside the house or with the window rolled down in his car when I'm riding with him. I quit smoking, because it made me sick and is the right thing to do. I don't tolerate people smoking around me in an enclosed space either. If I'm outside and able to move away, I will. If I can't get away, I will politely ask the smoker to stop. I will also do my very best to not smoke ever again. I don't think it's right to smoke around babies and children. I didn't do it when I was a smoker either.

As mentioned, I do not think there is anything you can say to someone isn't concerned enough themselves to quit smoking while pregnant.
Smoking constricts the blood vessels in turn decreases the distribution of blood and oxygen to both mother and infant.
Not to mention the damage the ingredients of cigarettes do to the cardiovascular, respiratory, immune and gastrointestinal systems.
And these ingredients are circulating through the mothers body into the unborn babies.
It is, in my opinion, a form of child abuse to smoke while pregnant.
There have been scientific studies that show nicotine exposure in the womb produces behavioral changes in babies similar to those found in newborns of women who use crack cocaine or heroin while pregnant.
As for a father's unhealthy habits, yes these can sometimes contribute to the child's health and wellbeing, however, the father's body is not the sole provider of nutrients and dependence of the unborn child like the mother's is. So far more weight is put on the mother.
But I do feel the father's hold some responsibility to being considerate to exposing their pregnant wives and children to second hand smoke.
I am trying to find it.....there was something I read when I was pregnant with one of our kiddo's that said something about the amount of nicotine & chemicals that deposits on your clothes when you smoke and the equivalent amt of nicotine & chemicals that your child is exposed to when you pick them up to hold them and they simply breathe in the nicotine & chems off your clothes. It was really startling for me.

Socal......my hat goes off to you and the many other Mum's out there that take into consideration their babies over their own comfort!!!!
What a good mom you are already :thumbup:
I can't imagine it is easy, pregnancy is tiring enough on it's own, not to mention the stress of stopping smoking.
Props to ya!

You know, I actually had a mother tell me that she smoked to keep the weight of herself and the baby down. She said she didnt want to deliver a big baby. I wanted to smack her.

Doh!!!!
*smacks forehead*
I don't know if I would have been able to bite my tongue....may be at the risk of needing stitches to reattach it after I bit it off.
Sometimes you wanna ask people if they really think things all the way through when they make certain decisions.

wooow! I can't stand people that smoke when they are prego. What I think is even worse is when then smoke around their new bornes. Second hand smoke is even worse than first hand since you don't have the filter.
I also think it's silly that people think that if you roll down the window while smoking in the car that no one else gets any of it.
