I hate flying (wish intercontinental ferries were still in operation) and have always wanted to sail from Okinawa to Hawaii and back on a not too big sail boat. I would take the time off for it. No interest in luxery cruises.

My question is to any of you who have your own sail boat and who have sailed or have made the trip from Okinawa to Hawaii is: what would you charge a passenger (single) or a couple for the trip? And how long do you think it would be?

If not you who are reading this, then do you know a contact number of someone to call who has done so or who could introduce me to the right person who would be willing to sail a straight course from Okinawa to Hawaii?

Have you ever considered getting a sail boat certification. I know they offer them thru kadena services.

Mark Payne may be able to provide you will some valuable information. Ask for him at Sam's By the Sea.

The last time I knew of anyone making the voyage by sea was my grandmother sometime in the eighties. According to her, she sailed with a cargo liner that also carried some passengers. Even if I remembered the price, it'd be different now a score later. Are there even any luxury liners that make that trek? I know you want something on a smaller scale, but I'm curious now.

Yes, there are luxury liners but they do not depart from Okinawa. They depart from Tokyo, and usually they are world tours, and Tokyo to Hawaii is just one leg of that tour. Very expensive.

Cargo ships now only allow the employees or the family members of those cargo ships to be passengers, or the execs of those large companies (e.g. Toyota, Sony, etc...) which have contracted them to ship their products. Well, that is what they told us when we called and asked about about 15 yrs ago.
