Anyone heard anything about Dyncorp closing up shop in Okinawa?
Friend told me some info, but had no details. Anyone heard anything?

Haven't heard anything. I know that they come up for bid every few years though, wouldn't be surprised if they got the plug pulled.
I have a friend that still works for them, I'll try to ask.

I heard February of next year they close up... but I don't know if it's the entire operation, or just some sections...

I hope so. Those fukkers are worthless. All they do is drain the govt. of money doing jobs that GI's are more than qualified to do.

That's actually a pretty sweet ride...if it weren't for the need to have the contract renewed all the time.

More qualified? Not really. The way this whole situation got started was by some higher ups saying "let's source this out to civilians and free up those airmen for other tasks."
I've known a few workers for Dyncorp and you'd be hard pressed to find airmen even half as qualified as the ones that I knew.

I too know some Dyncorp employees who would be difficult to replace, but I also know some who shouldn't be allowed to plug in their own coffee pot.
Not a Dyncorp bashing thread.. just trying to find out if they are staying or not. I have some personal interest in it..

I don't think that these people are worthless.
Most of the ones that I've known over the years are pretty good at what they do. I think that it's sad that we need contractors these days.
The reason that we need them, is that the average "Military" member is getting lazier, and lazier.....
You can make them go away by learning to do the job that you were hired to do, and actually doing it. As compared to going to the BX, clogging up Chili's, making up appointments, etc....
Complaining about somebody who is making your life easier, makes no sense to me.

I can't speak for the entire military, but in my specialty contractors have taken away most of the duties that kept us gainfully employed and smart. But since the military has to move active duty around so much with little continuity they dug their own holes......

What the heck military are you talking about? AFAIK the military is overworked as it is and can't even go to medical for shit they need cuz they don't wanna get ragged on for it.

How are they making my life easier? They've got equipment of mine that's been there for 3 months and it's just sitting there collecting more of the very rust they're supposed to be removing. The active duty FAB flight would have had it done in a week but they use their civilian union card and slack on the shit for months on end.

I can't blame them for wanting to soak up the money, if the AF is looking to throw it away, why not jump on it. I dealt with dynacorp a lot back when i was stationed there, most were very talented professionals and down to earth good people, although we did sent a lot of equipment back up their way due to substandard work.
on a side note: Whoever came up with the wonderful idea of painting all age and off-equipment from green to grey sure was looking to burn threw some cash. That contract had fraud waste and abuse written all over it.

I totally agree with you on that one.

I did get info that they were leaving by February.. at least in part. Lots can happen before Feb. though.
AF apparently is in the mood to save money, and says their own can do the job.

I think hes saying that the civilian workers pull thier card so they can slack on the painting for 3 months whereas active duty would have it done in a week. Think you mis-read that one.
