What about Kume island? You can catch the ferry out of naha and I heard that there are some nice resorts on Kume.

Yoron is alright, nothing special. Star sand beach on the one side.....uhm yeah. Little bit of different flavor than Okinawa, hard to describe. Memory is a little foggy been 13 years since I went out there.
Met this hot mainland Japanese girl diving instructor out there. She was darker than any Okinawa girl I have ever seen but her butt was lily white.:D

Some old coworkers spent a weekend at Kume and booked the resort and ferry tickets thought kadena ITT IIRC.

Yeah, I don't like how sparse th ferry schedule on Yoron is. I'd like at least two times a day, so i can afford to screw up and miss the first one and not be totally screwerd ;)
So, looking at Kume, but right now its still between zamami or tokashiki. Hey, is it really even worth going in december though?

Been to Yuron, it was ok. Also been to Kume and it was ok. Got drunk, went to the beach, banged some chicks. I guess it is ok if you want to get away from Okinawa for awhile. But nothing really fantastic going on there.

Yoron is really nothing special like someone said earlier. Was there about two years ago.
Izena or Iheya are pretty nice. Again nothing speacial but a lot closer and kind of like Okinawa was 30 years ago minus all the snacks and GI bars. Nice place to chill out for a couple days though.
Iheya has a pretty nice camp ground on the south end.

What about Taketomi? The in laws own a soba shop/hostle somewhere on the island. You could visit ishigaki and/or Irimote and then make your way to Taketomi.

You can ride the cow cart though the sand streets.

It is a very tiny island though and you do have to fly to Ishigaki first and then take the ferry to Taketomi.

We had plans to go there and stay with my wife's aunt and uncle who run the soba shop/hostle I was talking about but I got PCS orders so I was never able to go. Her dad was also originally from there and I always wanted to visit. It would be an awesome vacation for me because I could dive and sit on the beach all day:thumbup:. I don't have to do a ton of stuff on vacation, I like to have a few days to just relax and do nothing.

I went there not too long ago on a snorkeling trip. Awesome underwater life. Clear water like most of the island. And not alot of people. I definately reccommend it

I went their 30 years ago for my honeymoon:old: Loved that place. It might have been your in-laws place where I ate the best yaki soba on earth. Back then we have the famous hover craft that speed you thru the other surrounding islands. That all alone was fantastic.
