I remember the rates being like that around 2001 and 2002. Think it got up to around 133 yen/dollar in '02.
Edit: To put it in perspective, today I took out 50,000 in yen to pay bills. In 2002 that would have been equal to around $375, whereas today it was about $581, a difference of 206 dollars! :( The dollar is shit these days.

I live in Okinawa City in a 2 floor single family house. I pay ¥60,000 per month.
Uruma City (near Yamada-denki) with a 5 year old 3LDK and fairly large yard (by Japanese standards) - ¥80000/month. We almost moved in to a 4LDK that was about ¥57500/month, but some other family got to it first (it was next to a tomb so they dropped the price a lot)

I live in the Yoshihara area near Koza. I pay 20000 yen an hour which works out to 14,400,000 yen a month. Very steep price for a little shack. Lots of people coming and going. Very noisy at night. A lot of toothless people running around.
Thank gawd for rent ceilings.

Wait...how many people who say "they pay $??", are actually paying for it out of thier own pocket? Some people may still get an Off Base Housing Alowance. I pay for my rent straight outa my paycheck. Off Base Housing Allowance doesn't count. Or COLA......even thought the Yen rate sucks, the people that get that money should still count themselves lucky.....or STFU and pay for it out of your own pocket....or move your asses back on base

What kind of parking? Do you know of any more like that? I live in a single family prehistoric walk-in closset on steroids paying 53,000 / mo.
I realy can not complain though. Parking isn't bad. Have room for a truck and two cars and also a decent size totan warehouse.

I live close to downtown Naha, in Sobe. We just moved into a new place last week (2LDK)0,000 rent, 6,000 parking (one car), 3,000 building a elevator fee. So rent time with bill is right around 65,000yen. Its not to bad for living in the centre of the city. You go north of Naha and the prices just keep dropping.
And ya I pay out my pocket, no military housing allowance for me ;(
