View Full Version : OAARS Blacklisted for third time

For the THIRD time, OAARS (Okinawan American Animal Rescue Society) has managed to get itself blacklisted from our classifieds. I think I've had enough.

The way my blacklisting system works is, if you place an ad and it is breaking our rules I click a button and you get nailed with an infraction point from breakin a rule and all of your free ads are deleted. I only do this if it actually looks like the person just has no respect for our rules. After three infractions, the blacklist sets that person as banned from submitting ads. Well, they can submit ads, but the classifieds automatically deletes his/her ads every time.

So, OAARS has received 9+ infractions and as of an hour ago has been banned three times. The past two times, I figured "aw well, they're doing a good thing, I might as well give them some leniency". The fact is, they don't let up. They do not listen. And I'm sick of this.

OAARS. You may not post message ads on the classifieds. That is what the forums are for. If you find this post, great. If you don't, too bad for you. I'm not allowing you to post anymore on our classifieds until you get your act together. Post your public appology here. I'm sick of it.

I'm really starting to think that THIS might be the actual reason I don't give AR/AW activists much credit. They seem to actually think they are above EVERYTHING. I'm sorry. BANNED. Let me know when you figure it out and are ready to abide by our rules.

Edit: I'm pretty sure someone will ask, "but did you talk to OAARS before? Did you tell them why their ads kept getting deleted and why they kept getting banned?". Yep. Twice.

Edit #2: For the record, nobody has been banned as often as OAARS. Most people get their act together after being banned once.

(o.O) How convoluted are the rules to place a classified ad that someone or some organization can continuously botch a submission? I've seen a few OAARS ads in JU classifieds that mention adoptions and such. I'm curious to know what they did wrong. I know, it's none of my business, but still curious. :o

I'm a bit curious as well but I'm sure DK will tell us if he wants..:D please tell us DK :)

Like I said, my problem is that they were placing message ads like this:

Hey everyone! Don't buy pets! You're making the problem worse! And if you sell pets, you're breaking the law! Don't do that! It's bad! You're messing things up! oaars.

I don't have a problem with their ads like "little ricky is a little oki-mix dog who needs a home. if you would like a forever pet, contact us at blah blah blah." Those don't bother me. It's the message ads. I've told them so many times to not place them on the classifieds.

lol.

OAARS Animal Welfarists are giving us Animal Rightists a bad name.

Anyways, hopefully someone from OAARS will either post here to apologise or go out of their way to contact you to try and let you know they will get their act together about respecting the rules. But, I do hope you forgive them even though there is frustration about this.

I wish they would come here for those message ads. That way there may be a few more people on my side of the arguments here about and for animals.

I do too and I don't understand why they don't.

I MAY give them one more chance, but seriously, how many chances do I need to give them? Why should I even think they'll ever learn when it looks like they have no regard for anything I've ever told them? Why should I continue to let them use a FREE service when they just do not have any intention of following the rules?

Seriously, if this happened on the forums, would you forgive them? What if they were a member of these forums who was a good person in real life but just could not follow rules whatsoever and told the admin/mod team to go **** itself every single day? Would you give them as many chances as I've given OAARS?

Yes, poor tP needs a friend. Awww.... maybe getting a pet would help. :p heehee.

I see what y'all mean now. They probably think it's an announcement. Yeesh. If you've directed them to the JU forums, then that's all there is to it.

Well...I am not tooooooootalllly alone here, Socal. btw, I have no pets. Pets are slaves. I am the "guardian" of some nonhuman beings. <smile>

Indeed. Dk, when you replied to them and told them to come here to do that, did you give the link to here in your message to them? I am confused as to why they would not take advantage of this board. What a waste! They are not using all available recourses at their disposal -- AND this is free!

Just screw 'em dk! They'll be ok!

...maybe, they keep changing people too often and they are all less than intelligent!

dk

I'm not sending them a message this time. Their punishment is to have all of their ads deleted automatically until they figure it out. They've wasted a lot of my time. Now they can waste a lot of theirs. Unless one of you rats me out to them.

From what I've gathered, it's the same person placing ads. And I've already told her a few times to knock it off and to tell her other members what will not be tolerated on the Classifieds.

Really, this isn't a HUGE PROBLEM. I just do not allow people to walk all over me. Ever. I couldn't care less if you were Mother Teresa. PETA, OAARS, Okinawa O.C.E.A.N., Captain Planet... nobody is exempt from my rules.

I think Drp probably has it right about them getting new people all the time and those persons are just overzealous. The one you originally tell to stop doesn't go back and pass that message on to everyone else or the newbies.

Maybe I will email them and tell them why, tell them to apologize, and tell them to get their stuff together and come here for their messages. But not sure when I will do it. Maybe someone will beat me to it.

Go for it if you want, but I'm not unbanning them until October 24th unless they have an amazingly good reason. And this will be the last time I reverse a ban on them, if I do. They get banned again, good riddance.

It's at work, but you can pull their contact information off their website. Google oaars.

Yea, but that official contact info may not be the person who is always posting the stuff, and IIRC, they had like 5 or 10 of their officers listed with contact info. I would like the one that is always posting them. If you can remember tomorrow when you get to the office to send it to me via PM, that would be cool.

LOL! Exactly. Maybe a pet would be good for you. ;) All that "guardianing" can be stressful. Scientific findings somewhere have said that petting a pet reduces stress. :D

Okay, okay, okay... (that's my only Pesci impersonation) So, no more OAARS in the classifieds until they (they being that one person probably) sticks to basic ads like "adopt a pet" and OAARSish stuff. Got it!

Just email that one and ask to be put through to the head. There's a good chance my emails don't even go back that far. The last person I was in contact with was supposedly the head if my memory is correct, so ask for her. She was also supposed to inform her team to stop posting message ads. I doubt she ever did.

dk
09-24-2007, 05:47 PM
You know what. No. Just no. I'm not going to bend over backwards for these guys at all. None whatsoever. Use whatever contact information you can find if you really feel the need to inform them. I'm not even going to bother with them unless they post here. I'm not going to look up phone numbers, names, nothing. I'm not giving them any more of my time until they get their act together. Period.

Maybe they are really just totally stupid and computer illiterate. Maybe they just thought something was wrong so they kept trying to post a new add.

Or maybe they are just total assholes....who knows:D

I'm more than affilitated with the person responsible (fairly sure I know who it is).

Dedicate the banning to me, please. Feeling as if I've taken some part in the removal of their "good deeds" is cathartic in a passive aggressive sort of way.

Good golly, I hate dogs.

DK, I like you man, but why would you put this out there for everyone to know? Why wouldn't you keep this private? Instead you're bashing an organization here on Okinawa trying to help out in the community. This just seems like a total insult. And finally, why would you make them apologize on the forum until they can put something else on the Update? This is nonsense. For your information, you have a hell of a lot more to worry about when it comes to your classifieds, from the woman selling the monkey to the other dude selling an octopus. None of these animals are even allowed on base. Worry about real stuff dude,

Samy

I think he was just ranted. DK is also not the animal police for the base. It's not his responsibility to make sure no one is buying flying squrills(sp), monkeys, octopuses, etc...

Actually, why would and octopus be banned on base? I've seen people with octopuses in their salt water aquariums.

Samy I think it really doesnt matter who it was. It is just by chance that it was this group. Whether they do good work or not isnt the point, any business or group should be expected to follow the guidlines set.

Hell I think dk would have bitched just as hard had it been a business selling manure for fertilizer.

WHy not just lock it and it will die away on it's own, but if necessary you can always use it to remind people and yourself if something else comes up like this.

Good idea. I'll lock it and keep it for reference. It must have been a month by now. I'll unblack list them and see what happens.

Thanks for your comments, guys.
