Ok, playing a little practical joke here, and need some help.
Anybody know a way/application to get remote desktop functionality on Windows Vista? My girl and I both have Vista Home premium. (or "poopium" depending on who yu ask.. :rolleyes: )
Apparently the Vista Home versions do not support the included "remote desktop" feature.
MY girl isn't super computer savy, so my goal is to sit across the living from her, while she's on her laptop, log into her computer, and start doing things while she's looking at it.
While she's on, I want to pop open her Yahoo messenger or Facebook IM window on her screen. Then I can IM her questions and have "her computer" send replies she wouldn't actually send...
"Hey babe, what do you feel like doing tonight...?"
"I was thinking about cleaning the whole house, then putting on lingerie and making you dinner before I do you..."
"awww... sure you don't want some help?"
"no no. I got it... youjust sit there and drink beer. Here let me get some for you...."
:D:rolleyes::D
Anyways, need a way to do this. Computer gurus? What have you got for me?

I think remote desktop does not work that way. I have only used it a couple times cuz it is such a pain to configure. Anyways the host computer's screen will black out and she will totally know something is going on. Now you could use "logmein.com" I have used that in the past to remotely control a PC. It is a whole lot more user friendly than windows remote desktop.
**** If I am wrong please be gentle with me. I have a huge hangover this morning with only 2 hrs sleep, but thats the way I remember remote desktop. I also remember that I didnt like using it.

You could hide all her desktop icons and then make this her background:D

you could use MSN messenger+remote assistance.
Remote Desktop is more for officed LAN configurations, while the answer above will work for most home setups.
another good route is "gotomypc" its not free (30-day trial), but it works very well.
as for the aformentioned prank, answer a wouldnt work because she has to grant you permission to take control of her machine and unless she is physically away from the computer she can see everything you do. answer b locks her out of the machine while you contain full control of the machine. also while harmless intent, i do think using another persons account is highly unethical, because once you have access to their account when does it stop at just the prank??
also VNC is not encrypted and a security risk, if you want a secure link you need VPN....

I think answe rA is what I want then. I want her to be able to see what I am doing. I just want her not to know why is possible. IE: I wan her to see her yahoo messenger open so she can she that it is respnding to me. I want her to be like "What? WTF! I am NOT typing that!"
