i have been told a few times on Kadena AB that i have to have doors on my jeep, but i have only been turned around once. Does anyone know if this is a real base rule or the gate gaurds being A$$ holes on kadena, as it is the only base i have ever been told that on.
also to add even with my doors on they are only meatle frarmed vinal doors they wouldnt do much anyway.

not quite sure, as long as it qualifies as road legal, it should be fine. Probably might need to call the law enforcement desk or base legal or whatever. Get the policy letter that states it.

Probably just the gate guard being a dick.
One time a friend of mine and I were going to drive on base, but I'd have to sign in her and her car. The guard turned us away and said we had to give 24 hours advance notice to sign in a car that was not a Y plate.
So we went to a different gate and the guard there signed us in with no problem and only asked where we were going.

I don't know for sure, but most likely you needed the doors to pass the JCI, if so, then the would need to be on for base access to0.

Are the doors hinged for removal? If so, they should have some type of bar or support across the opening, so you can't easily hop out. I can't see a problem if is set up like that.
A few years ago I was leaving Foster, and the MP stopped me to look at my ID. As I was leaving, another jumped out in front of me, and asked who the vehicle belonged to.. (it was my wife's vehicle.. Japanese tag)
The guy told me about how he could impound the vehicle, and I was illegally driving the car. I told him I had insurance, and I was covered in Japan because it was my wife's car.
A 10 minute phone call later, the douche found out I was right, but still gave me a ticket for not having insurance just because he couldn't read the Japanese policy.
Ask for it in print.. like everything else, people try to enforce "what they heard".

It's an as$hole rule. I had the Jeep, with the front window bolted down on the hood, cruising though the gate. It's kinda up to the shite headed gate guard when you go on base. You need the doors and such for the inspection, but I've driven buck-nekid, drunker than shite, from Nago to Okinawa City in a Jeep, with no doors, and the Windshield bolted bolted to the hood, with bugs smacking into my face, and loved every minute of it.
If the Gate Guards give you shit, tell them Sex Wax says to STFU.

yes i did have to have doors to pass inspection, but from talking to a freind who is a JP he said the only time you have to have doors in on the express way so it is leagle to drive with out them off base. and i have asked the gate guard who turned me around to show it to me in writing, all he could say at that point was leave now or i can have jeep inpounded.

I guess it would be his burden to prove it at that point. Just like the guy who said he could impound my car before.. one phone call away from a flaccid peepee he was.
If you don't want to tell what kind of vehicle it is, PM me, and let me know. I have some connections that would know for sure.
Remember, what passes JCI specs/GOJ laws aren't necessarily good to go on base. You always have that second set of military regs, and then the vagueness to interpret those however someone wants.

Probaly just being a douche bag.
I have seen HMMVW's go through the gate without the doors.
Why not a jeep?

Yeah, I have had people tell me that cops will stop you on the expressway if your doors are off. It never happened to me, but I don't have the Jeep any more any way. Last time I saw the old "Black Betty" it was at some one's house right beside Sunabe Gyos. That's my old Jeep. And yes, even though it was one of the Mitsubishi "Jeeps", I actually liked it better than the GM Jeep. That being said, I really like the new 4-door Jeeps. That looks like it would be fun to drive around topless with a mess of topless chicks in.

Look on MCBButler's webpage, there is a link in the JSVRO page that discusses vehicle regs. It mainly targets sports cars and most likely drifters, but if it's not in that file, then I don't think it exists.
But...if the doors are necessary for the inspection, then he was most likely correct, but still just being a prick that day. We all know things are allowed to go on everyday on base that are "illegal", it just takes someone to get a hair up their ass to enforce regs one day to make your day shitty.

Not directly related to the OP, but to a Jeep, someone tell me the purpose of not having doors on a vehicle? Also, I notice alot of Jeeps in the States, parked without the top on. Hell, I don't even know where they store the top. What happens if it rains? Is the interior made of some material that doesn't get ****** up if it gets wet?

It's a Jeep. Doors or Tops are not needed, or wanted in most cases. Everything is water-proof, or it will dry eventually. You don't buy a jeep for looks or comfort. It's a vehicle for people who like like sand on the floor, and old board wax coagulating under the seat. People who could care less about the heated seats in the new Lexus. A heated seat in a Jeep is letting it sit out in the sun all day.
A Jeep is not a Jeep until there's puke or blood stains on the floor.

It's real simple; it's the air force. Any similarity to a military unit or common sense is purely coincidental. This is the same base that a few years back would not allow an Okinawan woman with valid military ID in the commissary without her sponsor. I could go on and on but what's the point?

I had a pdf file with all the regs about what can and cannot be done to your car and it said that you could be pulled over on base for violating any of the regs. Most fell in line with the JSRVOs JCI rules IIRC but I can't find the pdf anymore.

It would be pretty easy to steal a jeep I imagine considering breaking into a ar is half the battle.
