Maybe this should be in rants, but...
So there are several people in my office that constantly talk about World of Warcraft and to make things worse, they talk like their character is who they actually are in real life. Just find it kind of annoying if not disturbing to say the least.
Has anyone else noticed this?
You'd understand if you played an mmorpg. After a while, you actually do pretty much become these characters. For three years, I was a black mage. On final fantasy xi. A hella strong one at that. :P
But yeah, I can see how it'd be annoying to an outsider. My wife used to give me this look like...

Oh God, you're one of them!!! *Makes cross with fingers* :)
No, I've broken that habit lol. But I do understand where they're coming from. When you actually put years into something, people tend to be come whatever it is.
I knew that job on that game inside and out.

lol DK the blm... I was a white mage..well still am! But i do hate wow talk anywya! >.> even if i do play a game similar :P
but its like anything. put so much time into something, and its all you'll talk about. and anyone not doing that thing...will get bored of hearing you talk about it after awhile :P
It's really wierd thinking that I put so much time on my character on ffxi. After having quit for 2 months, I don't spend nearly as much time at my computer. It feels pretty good.
But if I hadn't have played ffxi, I wouldn't have gotton to know talindra. We had a lot of fun on that game. Especially right after the expansion came out. XD

LoL-Sweet, rehab for gamers! I can already see the circle of former gamers introducing themselves and starting the 12 step program to quitting gaming :)
You never quit gaming! You move on to something less addicting!
Actually, I haven't turned on any type of game in about 14 days or so now. Been too busy with a bunch of projects.

I'm a big gamer, but people really do take these sort of things to far. I think that most games are designed to be an escape... the thing is that most people escape and try to never return.

LoL - I think you are right there. When you take on your game character in the real world, I think there is a problem. :)

I don't know. It's only a problem if it hurts someone. If gaming starts to have a negative effect on your family or your work, then perhaps you should cut back or quit, but if the game isn't having much/any of a negative affect on your life, do what you want to do.
Besides, when you quit one addiction, you tend to latch on to another vice. I quit ffxi about 4 months ago and since then have turned into a workaholic. Which is better? I personally feel like I'm overworking myself and not having enough fun. At least with ffxi I HAD an escape. Now I don't.

I was watching something on the Discovery Channel not too long ago about how chat rooms, WOW, and etc. ruin peoples lives. One guys on there was very serious about WOW and he lived it like it was real life, he even met a girl on there and ended up 'engaged' and then when she didn't show up to the 'wedding' he (in real life) killed himself.
However, my brother got me hooked on WOW, I played it, but I prefer the Sims 2...no meeting people, no joining WOW cliques, you can always save and you can really just as you please without someone cussing you out for not knowing what to do during a mission....plus I like building houses on sims and using cheat codes to have lots of money...defeats the whole purpose I know..but hell....I never keep the same family for more than a week. :p

you know i used to be one of those guys that would talk about wow alot but then i quit and relized how ummm gotta say say this with out hurting peoples feelings but just corny i guess. "man i'm so stocke di got my new pants today i can do a 3k SB now" yeah .... just not my thing anymore and sorry if i made some poeple mad with that but i'll admit when the new expansion comes out i'll pick it back up to lvl then quit again lol
That's nothing! I've seen screenshots of this one blackmage breaking 7000 damage doing an MB on a Lamian Idolater in Caedra Mire!
I wasn't much better. Different game, but same thing.
I'm pretty sure my wife would divorce me if I picked up another mmorpg hahaha.

I FIND IT REALLY DISTURBING!! MY HUSBAND PLAYS WOW AND BOTHERS ME EVERYDAY TO MAKE A CHARACTER, AND NOT JUST THAT HE GOT MY DAUGHTER WHO IS 6 YRS. OLD TO PLAY IT. SHE HAS HER OWN CHARACTER AND WANTS ME TO WATCH HER PLAY. UGGHHHH...I FIND IT SOO ANNOYING AT TIMES. I HATE THAT GAME!! AND WILL NEVER PLAY THAT GAME EVER!!

I never could get into WoW, the chars are just too odd looking for me...maybe too cartoonish. I really liked Vanguard, but the performance of that game sucks ass. LOTRO was pretty good too, maybe Ill start playing that again...

I admit that I play wow, but my friend plays too much. We started off in high school playing sports together. We both played wow on the weekends, but always took the time to do those fun social things. Now I'm in the Army, in pretty decent shape, and I still play wow from time to time. My friend weighs an amazing 360lbs. I guess when your parents don't expect you to get a job, you just tend to sit there and get fat.

I hate this damn game. Hubby plays it all the time...hi azz is liked hooked on it and it gets on my damn nerves. I don't see the excitement of this game at all. Sometimes I feel I should just dedicate one day of my life and play this game and see if it's at least worth the time at all. I hate the game..and see no point of this game. I'm not a fan of this game at all...all it does is pisses me off.
Don't play it if you hate it.
I don't know about WoW, but Final Fantasy XI (online too) ruled. I loved it so much. I'd play it casually if I could, but those games are so addicting, and I don't have that kind of free time anymore.

Yea...I probably coultn't even dedicate my time to even play this game. I hate it soo much, I don't even want to look at it.
Hopefully he grows up and stops playing the game.
Play one of the Dragon Quest games when he plays WOW. It's cuter. You might like Dragon Quest 8. Jessica is HOT.

They're great. I love em. They're more cutesy than cool though, but I like thier story lines.
