'God' responds to legislator's lawsuit

LINCOLN, Nebraska (AP) -- A legislator who filed a lawsuit against God has gotten something he might not have expected: a response.
State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha said he sued God last week to make a point about frivolous lawsuits.

One of two court filings from "God" came Wednesday under otherworldly circumstances, according to John Friend, clerk of the Douglas County District Court in Omaha.

"This one miraculously appeared on the counter. It just all of a sudden was here -- poof!" Friend said.

State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha sued God last week, seeking a permanent injunction against the Almighty for making terroristic threats, inspiring fear and causing "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

Chambers, a self-proclaimed agnostic who often criticizes Christians, said his filing was triggered by a federal lawsuit he considers frivolous. He said he's trying to make the point that anybody can sue anybody.

I'm laughing at it to myself.

But i'm also glad it's bringing into the spotlight somewhat how sue crazy people are being these days.

But still wow, somebody actually came thru and left a letter on gods behalf.

It reminds me of the Oh God (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076489/) movies. I had a good chuckle about this article. It's very creative of someone to leave that. I especially liked the part where an archangel was witness. :thumbup1:

...and ending the story with:

Attempts to reach Chambers by phone and at his Capitol office Thursday were unsuccessful.

I almost read this as:

Attempts to reach cult members by reason at any place and time are often unseccessful.

But, kudos to the person who replied on God's behalf. Nice wit.

I heard this morning on the news that the cleaners who were sued by a judge because a pair of pants was damaged/lost decided to close shop because they could no longer afford paying lawyers to defend themselves. The judge originally wanted approximately $50 million, but lowered his claim to approximately $30 million. The judge was offered $10,000 at one point to settle the case, but did not. Unbelievable.
