So...I'm finally making the transition from NAF to APF. And with that I have to change my insurance coverage since my current health and dental insurance is for NAF employees only. I've been thumbing through the handout I got from CPO but it doesn't list many options. I've heard Blue Cross Blue Shield is good but I wanted to see what JU's opinions were. To be honest I don't know of any other insurance companies except BCBS and AETNA (which is for NAF employees only) So with that being said...what/who would you recommend as an insurance company? I could use the help...

I use BC/BS for health, and I have a separate dental plan. BC/BS is pretty good, I just did an assload of work at the hospital the last few months and I'm out a whole whopping $50 copay. BC/BS has dental also, but I had to purchase an extra plan to cover the kids braces, that one required that we pay in for at least one year before they would pay claims, but they are paying for all kids braces now.

I would check into the Atena Global or the Cigna global plans. Very helpful for out here. I can use on base or off base and I get the same coverage.

Same with BC/BS.

I never had insurance in the states but I've heard nothing but horor stories about BC/BS. Any truth to this?

Nope, not all. Not that I would want that kind of medical care again. I'd pay not to go to another military hospital/clinic. :D

Mortin Hears a Who!

Ever notice how some of the words in RB's posts resemble something generated by a captcha? :w00t:

"Morton" should read "Motrin". Post fixed per RB executive order P1-420A.

[This is an official RB message / decision.]

I have BCBS. I think most of the insurance plans are quite similar. Some people I know have enrolled in the Foreign Service Benefits Plan. They are the only insurance plan that actually send reps out to Okinawa annually as far as I know. FSBP folks keep it real, too.

thanks everyone for the advice. having a little boy i have to go to medical more than i would like but that's the price you pay for having kids. (wouldn't trade my baby boy for anything though). so i'm just shopping around to see what's the best for my family and i.

and rb...did you hear that motrin cures every cold you get??!! lol ****** motrin, I tell u. did you know it costs like $12 for a bottle of motrin from lester hospital?! that's why i always say "no thank you, got plenty stockpiled from previous dr's at home."
