View Full Version : Car Cleanliness in Okinawa (and other various topics:))

How often do you clean your car? Does it matter what kind of car you have? Or even if you hate your car do you keep it clean?

I like to have a clean car but I don't have much pride in the one I currently drive so I let it go for months before washing it. I'd like to do it weekly but I rarely go to far and it seems to get dirty again really fast here.

I am a stickler about the inside though. I never eat in my car.

How about you?

Tsch, the interior of my car is all sorts of effed up. But it runs, so I don't care. I smoke, eat and drink Red Bulls in my ghetto cruiser. :first:

Enos! 1226 yen for a wash, wax, hand dry, and interior vaccum. They even do the windows and use something that miraculousl makes the car smell good. (Quite a task after a work week long buildup of leftover lunches, gym clothes, and sneakers have been sitting in the back seat.)

Gotta keep your car clean. It's like your shoes in terms of what women look at, but bigger and shinier. If you can't afford a nice car, women tend to think you can't provide for them. If you don't keep it clean, they think that is a reflection on your personal hygiene and housekeeping skills. If you can't keep it running, you can't keep you life together, either.

It all comes down to women. If it weren't for them, we'd all drive the exact same car, same color, everything.

@0341 They smuggle the Virgin Mary out of the garage and make her ovulate all over your seat, that's where the smell comes from. Don't believe me? I SAW IT FIRSTHAND.

Meh, my car was spotless before I had a kid. Now I have sand, papers, school books, stroller, cans... ugh. Maybe I should clean my car? It's also never been through a car wash either in two years.

I always keep my cars clean on the inside and clean the outside about every 2 or 3 months. I definitely make sure it is mechanically sound at all times though. I don't need an attractive car to attract women. Mainly because I'm married :thumbup1:

Depends on the car. When you're looking at a car that's chipping paint due to poor patch jobs and is in need of over 2 grand worth of repairs, sometimes you say **** it. Now, if you decide to ditch it for a newer car, say something that isn't 12 years old and a piece of shit, that newer ride might deserve some routine cleaning. :)

I grew up in a very car-cultured household, so I wash and vacuum my car once a week. Check the tires, fluids, belts, etc. once a month. I never felt it to be a chore, just enjoy the satisfaction of having a clean nice smelling vehicle. I usually keep the interior clutter-free by throwing everything except my backpack in the trunk. No smoking allowed, and seldomly do I eat unless I'm in a hurry. I'd treat a $200 car the same as a $20,000 car, I generally take care of anything I paid my hard-earned money for.

Also I think alot of people put their personality into their cars, so whatever condition its in could be a reflection of their habits/mood.

I just don't feel the need to keep the Mom-mobile spotless. It's not a cool ride but functional. If I was keeping the car for 3+ years, maybe I would care a little bit more.

When I was younger I figured out how to get "pussy getting car cool" on a budget. Still use the same theory actually.

Whats it cost to get a respectable car that you are not afraid for girls to see you in? Even if you go used, I think you bettter spend at leat 10 or 11K to get something that's even remotely cool.

On the other hand, for 6,000 you can get a brand new super clean motorcycle. Plenty of cool points with the chicks there.

if you really need a car, you can take another 2K and get just some generic beater. You're still under budget, and you get mad cool points.

My first 6,000K Bike! ---> 2004 Suziki Volusia! ----->http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2003models/2003-Suzuki-VL800IntruderVolusiaa-small.jpg
plus soft bags, shorty passenger backrest, chrome eagle custom aircover and fluid valve cover. looked a bit like this.--> http://www.feather.us/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/2004.suzuki.vl800.s.jpg Total cost about 6.5 and tell me I wasn't pulling some pussy!

Shit in the states just get a use integra Or an accord only a couple grand throw on some rims and you're golden.

Here in Oki chicks don't care if you have a car or not. But if you want a nice ride again a couple grand get a decent mark II or a chaser throw on some rims and bam.

My new car is a van. A Toyota estima droped with rims and a nice system. I love it and it's nice for us as it fits the family comfortably.

Here you can show up to the club in basketball shorts and a random T shirt and still get chicks no problem.

Well on oki I used to clean my car once a month inside and out and was very detailed about it. I had it repainted (mistake) so I really wanted it to look nice for as long as possible. But it seemed like no matter what I did it someone always hit it with a door or did something stupid like egg it (one of my neighbors did that:cursing:). So I stopped caring as much but still cleaned it about every other month or so.

First tell you wife there no more dangerous then a car. plus tell her youll save a lot of money on gas and parking, that should help alittle. as for getting the license (if its over 50cc, ya you need a motorbike license) I dont know about sofa guys but i had to take the course for 400cc automatic bike licencse its about 30 hours long and cost about 70000yen but your pass the test after the course with no problem at all.

depends again. Most women like clean and well dressed, but thats just about the way you present yourself.

I mena, some women are the type that demand the hottest new labels, yadda yadda but really, for Half the chicks that say they won't date a poorly dressed man, Plain old Jeans, a regular T-shirt as long as everything is clean, wrinkle free, the colors match that's usually good enough.

Chicks just want a guy who takes some pride in his appearance and acts/dresses like an adult.

Add to that of course that as a grown man, you should at least own a few collared shirts, maybe at least one suit, and have the common sense to know when your location/occasion require "more than a t-shirt" . Thats just class and maturity chis are looking for.

Kinda like you know you have all seen that one Marine who brings his date to the ball wiht no idea what she was supposed to be wearing.

even as a ex-cop I say on a 8 lane highway and 330am with no cars its fine. as a cop that was about the only time we would let the bikers drive fast. its better then flying between cars at 3 in the afternoon.

Yes the best would be on a track but most people dont have access to a track, so if your going to drive fast do it on an open highway very early in the morning when there is no cars.

Basically yes, but in Japan it's a little different. They have to follow the Japanese laws somewhat. The licenses go by engine size and the cutoff for sofa license is 400cc.

So if you want to ride something over 400cc you need to take the test with something over 400. If you don't they will license you up to 400. If you want to get a bigger bike later I think you have to just take the test again.

But once you get that card from MSF you are golden and should not have to take a test anywhere in the states.

yeah, I varies state by state I think, but when I got my license the MSF course was awesome, because you could go get your learners, take the MSF course, and take your course completion card to the DMV and they'd give you your license. After all, the MSF course exam covers the same things as the DMV test.

Also, I say the MSF course is a hundred times better than just going to the DMV because

1. If you screw up a task at the DMV you're done. If you screw up something at the MSF (provided the instructor isnt a dick) they'll ususally remediate you on it, then let you try again.)

2. You really do learn some very useful skills and facts there. (Stuff I learned: Push/counter steering, why actual motorcycle gloves/jackets really do matter, and why just standard everyday gloves and jackets are NOT the same, emergency moves, etc etc etc.)

3. MSF card = discounts with a lot of insurance companies.

Yeah, iirc Canadians can simply bring their Canadian DL to any kouan (driver's license place) and swap it for a Japanese one. Probably some paper work involved as well. When I was trying to get a Japanese driver's license, I was told that had I brought in my old SOFA license a month prior to it expiring, they would have swapped it for a Japanese DL. No idea if they still do that and I can't remember if I would have had to take the written test or not. Oh well. :)

My wife used to drive from Urasoe to Hansen to pick me up daily (when we were dating).

As for keeping the cars clean...I wash the wife's car weekly, my car and truck are lucky if they get rained on, I'll clean them out once the trash gets too high for me to see out the window.

My wife used to drive from Urasoe to Hansen to pick me up daily (when we were dating).

As for keeping the cars clean...I wash the wife's car weekly, my car and truck are lucky if they get rained on, I'll clean them out once the trash gets too high for me to see out the window.

While I don't agree with you Doc, you get high marks for the young lady with the bouncing opai.:first::grin1:

For the rest of Asia, yeah you are right...don't need a car.

Seoul, South Korea. Girl I was seeing at the time conveniently lived close to anything we had to go to. When we went to visit the castles, we took a bus.

Kyoto, Japan. Girl I am seeing conveniently lives close to anything we have to go to. When we went to visit the temples, we took a bus and/or train.

Pattaya, Thailand. Didn't really have to ever leave Pattaya, that city is damn fun. Took the cheap-ass baht bus.

Manila and Clark Area, Philippines. Taxis, just make sure you have the guy turn the damn meter on or he'll rip you off.

Zamboanga, Philippines. We got no off-base lib here, it's a dangerous city for Americans. Stood on base.

Jakarta, Indonesia. Taxis, just makes sure you have the guy turn the damn meter on or he'll rip you off. And watch out for corrupt police, I got pulled over and had to pay him $50 in rupiah so I didn't go to the police station for "not having my passport."

And now,

Okinawa, Japan. When I was a young troop hitting on bartenders, one of the first "get to know you" questions that was asked of me was "do you have a car?" Sometimes, after closing, these girls would get picked up by their boyfriends - all of which, of course, were drivers. (Also knew one that only liked airmen, 'cause she said they live in dorms and only share the bathroom with their mates, lol).

90% of Okinawans drive, the bus system is mostly used by just old people and kid students (remember that JU article about the declining use of the public buses? yep).

We can agree that the most popular areas that people go to (Kokusai dori, Mihama, Gate 2 street, the Nago aquarium, any of the Naha soaplands if you are into that thing) are really easy to get to if you have a car. If not, be prepared to take a lengthy yen bus ride or expensive taxi ride.

Just saying...if you're in any podunk area in the world, you're gonna want a car. And Oki is relatively podunk compared to the rest of Asia.

Oh well. :)

Sorry to tell ya, but thats not true. When I said switch the license over (sorry) I ment not haveing to take the drivers course. I had to take a writen test about 20 q's all in bad english but very easy. then I had to do the drivers test. (which we know they automatically fail gaijins on e or two times) But so far Iam the only gaijin I know that got my license the first time. (but then again Im an ex-cop and driving is somthing we trained a lot on)

For my motorbike license I told the japanese course&test (been riding 13yrs, but glad i took the course because there test is very tedious)

I must have changed mine at just the right time (US) because I just did the eye exam, written test, video and no drivers test.:scratchchin:

How often do you clean your car? Does it matter what kind of car you have? Or even if you hate your car do you keep it clean?

Usually, I try to keep my car clean after performing a successful hit. After I kill the victim, I make sure to wrap the body in plastic sheets. Then, in the privacy of a secure location, we dice the body up onto small parts. The teeth and finger-tips, as well as other identifying marks on bones, get put into a machine press, making them a fine powder, which we throw into the grill. Then, after all the Teeth, Bones, and other body parts that can be identified are taken care of, we take the fleshy parts down to the Ocean, and let the fish and crabs eat the leftover evidence. DNA is easily destroyed by splashing Clorox or other bleach on the blood spatters.

But if you are good, there won't be any blood splatters, as you will have nullified the victim by a terminal, lethal shot of a secret chemical, that kills the victim, and makes it look like a heart attack.

Messy Hits, or Wet Works, are for amateurs.

It's better to let the target look like he/she died by natural causes or accident.

While living on Okinawa, I washed and vacuumed my American made car every two days. I am obsessed with clean 100% rust free vehicles. :)

I used to wash my car once a year wether it needed it or not but the rainy season on Okinawa takes care of that for me.

I scoop out the Georgia coffee cans from the passenger side whenever I have a pac or when the cans jump the hump to the drivers side whichever comes first.

I clean the back out when I can no longer find a place for my tools, then I pick up the car with my Tadano crane from the front tow points and let all the shit fall out.
