I was just wondering if anyone knows how to (and by that I mean, the ins and outs, the do's and don'ts) set up a company that is able to bid on Government contracts.

The company would have to be stateside I'm sure (to bid on the GOOD contracts).

Any good resources available that MAKE SENSE. Has anyone here done it?

I'm in the dark and even google is not being my friend.

Just wondering!!

just go to the contracting office on Foster and the secretary will give you all the paper work with the requirements- you first have to file for your DUNNS (sp) number

too much to explain, like I said they will give you all the information at the contracting office. I started the process about three years ago but stopped it and registered my company as Japanese instead for tax purposes

To apply for your DUNNS Contract, you first need to make sure your ID10 T forms are processed. Then head to the local contractors union office for the SNAFU forms, that must be filled out in triplicate. You may have to take a general construction safety quiz, with questions like: "What is the proper usage of a water hammer", "How do you properly dispose of 5 gallons of propwash", and the defination of "Bid" – A wild guess carried out to two decimal places.

Good Luck.

If I were you, I would visit the American Chamber of Commerce, and talk to the guys there.

Also they have a monthly meeting where members get a heads up on upcoming contracts.

If you are seriously looking at starting a business on Okinawa getting involved with the American Chamber of Commerce is a good idea. They have quite a few events that allow for tremendous networking opportunities. At there most recent networking event at the Harborview hotel in Naha there was a quite a few presidents and CEO's of large Japanese and foreign owed companies present, a large number or media outlets and consulting firms were also there. There were also numerous Japanese government officials and base officials present. Anyone who does business on Okinawa knows its all about who you know to get things done and I have met numerous people at the Chamber functions that have lead to contracts and jobs that I would not have know about otherwise.

Don't you have to pay a couple hundred dollars to become a member of the American Chamber of Commerce?
