I heard there was a zoo near Kadena. Anyone know the directions to it?

It's not worth it:D. But I'm sure someone knows directions too it. The one time I went I just went straight out KAB gate 2 until I saw the sign for it to turn right and then just followed the signs.

That sounds easy. I just want to take my 2 year old kid around. Thought the zoo would be the first place to visit. :thumbup1:

Took my kid there a few weeks back. Head out gate two, two or three light past 4 corners. Big sign. Turn right. Make sure to hit the hands on museum in there. My 5 yr old loved it

The zoo here is not like American zoos.

The cages are small and the animals look miserable.
Be prepared for heart ache.

It's fun for the kids. Lots of walking though. Take lots of yen to feed the fish and rent the boats. It's not as bad as some people will say.

Your kid(s) will like it. You probably won't care for it all that much.

It is fun to feed the fish, though.

Neo park up in Nago is cooler.

I agree. It is much nicer but a longer drive.

Neo park is cooler and any zoo will be great for the kids. Unfortunately none of the zoos on island seem to have been made with the well being of the animals in mind:scared:

NOT AS BAD?!

The level of cruelty does not matter it is still heart breaking to see animals so miserable.

Watch out for the monkey that throws his poop at you. :scared:

If level of cruelty doesn't matter then all zoo's are bad. I do understand what you're saying though.

agreed, they have began to to take better care of the animals, bu tht e best time to go is during festival season, Im not sure but they may have something going on during OBON...and when he said walking mostly uphill:crying::crying:, it was better when they had an amusement park there but that was a while ago

Zoos are hard to except if they are cramped and unhappy for the animals life-some do try to give large areas for the animals to live.

The San Diego wild animal park was awesomne and I did like the zoo there.

I am not one to jump a boat and try to save the whales, everything has a purpose in the cycle of life but I can't support making something else miserable just to be able to see it.

I would support a fund raiser to help make it bigger and better!:w00t:

Back home they have a huge wildlife park(1700 acres and 9 1/2 miles to drive through) where you drive through and most of the animals are just loose in the park and you feed them from your car. They do have the Wolves, big cats, etc in cages but it is a huge place and very fun time. They actually have cabins in the park you can rent and guided tours. Wish they had something similar here. www.fossilrim.com

I am a big fan of Busch Gardens Tampa , the wildlife park they have there is unbelievable ......but here in Japan the better zoos are up in mainland IMHO, just more room and professionals to take care of the animals

I went to the Zoo today as a friend was visiting and my son loves animals and will go there anytime. He is friends with the Anteater.

However, I was saddened to see it has not changed in the last 3 years, despite the fact that the Zoo said they had a 10 year plan to start changing and enlarging the enclosures. Ony the Bear's enclosure had changed and was larger, but it still had little shade and no natural habitat whatsoever.

All the enclosures were still way too small and did not offer enough shade. No greenery, no stimulation. The monkeys were bored out of their minds.

Good on ya, Okinawa city. Build your wonderful 'Wonder Museum', enjoy the A/C, and let's forget about the animals outside suffering in the heat.

aaaaah........blood pressure starts to rise...
