I am currently in Nagasaki on a month-long homestay and, needless to say, I've fallen in love with the city. I leave in a few days, and with me, I take the most heavy heart I've ever had from leaving a country.

In the course of my stay here, I've made quite a big decision... I am going to live in Nagasaki in the future. My plan at the moment is to finish high school, finish college, get my degree. Then work in America for a few years until I can safely and securely make the transition to living in a foreign country. Of course, in the interim, I'll (hopefully) learn to speak Japanese fluently; my grasp on the Japanese language right now is tenuous, at best.

But I've never been more serious about anything like this before. I really have my heart set on living here in the future. However, when I confided these plans in one of my friends, she brought up a good point. My current desired career path is to be a criminal psychologist. And she suggested the possibility that this career isn't in much demand in a relatively small city like Nagasaki.

I wanted to know if this is true, and if it is, then what are some high-demand jobs in Nagasaki? I'm willing to alter my career ambitions just for the sake of living in this city. That's how much I love it here.

Thanks so much in advance.

man, criminal psych in japan? you're barking up the wrong tree. aside from the fact that here in japan it seems like psychology anything is looked upon as a waste of time, foreigners in the police dept anywhere is almost unheard of. i couldn't tell you what specifically is in demand in nagasaki without having spent some time there. i do wish you the best of luck though. if you do get out of high school, get your degree, and become fluent in japanese, it will be MUCH easier to find a decent paying job than if you just came over here with a pocketful of dreams...

You're in the right place, we just don't have many Nagasaki people I doubt. Really, though, if you want to live anywhere in Japan (aside from Okinawa), teach English. In some places, IT will work as well. On Okinawa, you have more options.

Sasebo is just down the road from you and you might want to check to see what is there on base or around that area to get started. Good luck

English teaching is probably the way to go. The easy way would be to look into something like Nova, but these jobs are pretty low on the pay scale. The better way would be to get a degree in teaching or english, then try to come over as a school teacher.

As stated, however, none of us really know jack about nagasaki. Good luck!

Man, there have been a lot of "new" posts from brand "new" members that have been off the wall.

They just don't seem like "legitimate" posts. They smell funny. Anyone else get that feeling?
