This has probably been done to death, but I've gone back over the last four pages in Jobs and Employment and didn't see much info.

First of all, hello. Good to see there's a lively discussion forum going here.

I was stationed in Okinawa with the Navy from 2000-2002 and I've been trying to get back to Okinawa with SOFA status ever since I got out of the military in late 2004 with little luck.

I'm currently a GS-11 (GS-12 coming soon) with over 10 years of IT experience (combo of mil/private/public sectors). I'm working in information security right now, also in Navy Reserves in intel/personnel security/anti-terrorism with TS clearance. I've got a BS and will be starting my MBA in about 3 weeks.

What are my chances of getting back over there with SOFA/COLA/LQA from the US?

I'd appreciate any info you folks can give me...I gotta get back to Oki!

Chances? It's a toss up. Just keep applying for what comes open and hope for the best.

Good Luck!

Go private sector. need to speak japanese though. Im smelling a hard core head in the azz base type here, but I may be wrong. Adjustment to the private sector can be difficult for your kind, but you will learn tons at a company if you try. TS/GS/SOFA, nobody in the mulitinational companies care unless its a gov. contractor. Better have some good certs and speak the language.
