...did you not grow up with that has found it's way into your normal meal time routine?

I'd have to say that taco rice has become a welcome standby in our home. When the wife is tired, she just whips up taco rice. We have it at least every two weeks.

How about you?

CURRY! To be honest, the first curry I tried was CoCo's and hated it. However, I tried Krishna's and loved it. It was definitely a taste that grew on us. Miso soup is one of my favorites now and it's just about up there with chicken noodle. Sushi and taco rice are define favorites as well. For us, taco rice is a great way to get rid of left over taco meat from taco night when nachos just don't cut it. Yakisoba and pork adobo are up there as well.

Unagi. Didn't really eat eel that much back home as kid. But I love it now.

Sashimi. The thought of eating raw fish just a few years ago made me want to vomit, but now I love the stuff!

I wonder if there is a scientific reasoning why peoples preferences in flavors change over time. It seems like when you are young you can eat all the sugar and bland food to your heart's content. But when you get older you start to like spicy, sour, that you didnt like before.

Also I saw on PBS one time, some people have a gene where certain foods like Broccoli give different reactions. Some kids didnt mind it, others were repulsed. So if your kids hate certain vegetables or fruit, it might be scientific!

Aha! So there is a logical reason, other than a grainy texture, to why my daughter hates green peas. :grin1:

Hormones also change a woman's specific tastes in food. Every married man and father knows that one. For me, sharp cheese is fuggin' gross now after I had my daughter. I can't stand milk either. Before her, I enjoyed both sharp cheese and milk. Go figure... :argh14:

Never had any Japanese, Okinawan, Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, "real" Chinese (Ramen, gyoza, etc)or Philipino food before I came here. Now I love it ALL (other than natto and balut, although haven't tried balut and don't plan to, but other than these two items I mean ALL) and try to eat it as much as possible.

Other things I knew of growing up but didn't like and now do and eat somewhat regularly are peas, brussel sprouts, asparagus, pigs feet, liver, tripe, and squid ink.

LOL, my uncle took me to Benihana in LA of all places, my first time coming home from Okinawa. I ordered Yakisoba, our chef was Jose, and all I could say was "no way Jose"!

Onions. <3 I didn't like them as kid, not even sauted or fried. Now I LOVE them cooked, but still not so much raw.
