Flipping threw Anthony Bourdain episodes, I was asking myself...Where is all the street food in Okinawa?
So...
Where do you find good street food and what do you reccomend?

Kokousai Dori occasionally has vendors. Most street food is bought at festivals in my experience. Occasionally there will be jerk chicken outside a few bars or yakitori.

Thats all that I know of also. You would think there would be more vendors besides outside of gate2 area...
Okinawa's got to be the worst place for street food. Not Japan, Okinawa. Tokyo's got good stuff. Okinawa like Trail pretty much summed up is all about the occasional yakitori outside the bars, typical festival shit at random events/festivals (okonomiyaki, yakisoba, various sweet bean snacks etc.), Melon Pan or Pan carts/trucks/vans, Takoyaki, maybe crepes (I know one in Naha) and the odd hotdog or taco stand (one in Ginowan and a truck in Hamby). Well, now that I started rambling, there quite a bit more than I thought, but It's all spread out and random times/locations and really not that many.
As you've seen on No Reservations other Asian countries have way better looking (I'm sure tasting) and more centrally located and prevalent street food. Seoul has AWESOME street food!
Edit: There's the poor school girls selling vanilla and shikuwasa ice cream while waiting to get ran over on the side of the streets on weekends. That's good stuff. My fav probably in Oki though would be Takoyaki.

There was this one ramen side street vendor right outside the penthouse and I thought that was some good ramen. But then again everything seems to taste good when being drunk lol:smile4:

Street food is almost a no go as far as RB knows. But Okinawa is great for mom&pop joints to eat at located in the middle of nowhere througout the island.

Yeah, other than the Yakitori & American Dogs (a corndog) stands, there's not alot going on. During some of the festivals, or where they close the streets for events, many vendors come out. You would think that in Naha, where more people are walking around and it's busier, there would be more vendors. I've always thought about doing some food for a festival, and set up a stand. But I don't think I would want to stand out on the hot street, over a hot grill all day, every day.

I have been down to Naha quite a few times the last several months and have noticed a ton of street vendors at lunch time. I have always been in a hurry and never stopped. I know a few of you work or live there, have you ever tried them?
If so what would you suggest to try, I am game for anything!

That little Ramen shack on the back road to Hanby behind Kanahide supermarket isn't bad. My sons and I used to eat there regularly.

Yeah, there's alot of little gems back in there. I haven't been down there in awhile. I need to re-explore it myself.

If I remember, between 600-700 yen gets you a good size bowl of ramen, side dish and drink...
Just gonna throw this out there. I had the absolute best bowl of ramen ever on Saturday. It was my first time going there but it's the outdoor joint from Hokaido and ran by the naicha dudes under the bowling center in Mihama.
The ramen I ordered was called Pirikara (or something). Spicy broth, tender, thin slice of pork, soft-boiled egg, onions, cucumbers, and two shrimp (shell and head on). I recommend after peeling and eating the shrimp, squeezing the heads out into the broth, or suck the heads out (if you do that sort of thing).
I can't wait til winter to really enjoy a bowl over there.
Edit: Forgot to mention the noodles themselves and they were excellent.

Korea has a pretty vast array of street faire. however i didnt try much of the traditional food, but the corn dogs and chicken-on-a-stick (with or without sauce) is pretty tasty.
