This week will mark our 19 year Wedding Anniversary. I would like to go some place nice to eat in Naha. We’ve been to a lot of different places up north and in Okinawa City in the past. I'd like to try someplace within walking distance to Kokusai St for afterwards might be nice. Any ideas will be a big help. Thanks.

There is a nice place right on 58, I think it is one of the Sam's chain...little benni hana steak house...kinda small. What exactly are you wanting to eat? That would help with suggestions.
I know of countless numbers of places to go, what would help the most would be an idea of what kind of food and price range that you are thinking about.
Let us know, not to knock Sams but it is a "touristy" kind of place. Some people like that others dont.

I've been to Sam's. I wasn't all that impressed, but not a bad place to take a date. I'm looking for something a bit fancier. We do like to take the kids to Sam's Café.
We'd like to try someplace Japanese / Okinawa or French. I found a hotel that has a French restaurant in it. No kids allowed. That just might be the place.

There is a French restaurant on Heiwa Dori very close to the Kokusai Dori intersection. Turning off of Kokusai Street onto Heiwa Street, it's probably not more than 20 meters in, on the left-hand side. Second or third floor. There is another in Izumizaka just behind the Ryubo supermarket.
For Japanese food, the hotels are often your best bet. The tourists from the mainland are far more discriminating regarding their own cuisine than the locals here. One example would be the Royal (formerly the Seibu) Orion Hotel on the north end of Kokusai Street. The Japanese restaurant there is well spoken of by the Japanese tourists.
It's easiest to find nice Okinawan places. There are so many to choose from. Most places around Kokusai Street cater to the tourist crowd and tend to be pricer than the real local joints, but they are fun and convenient.
The Harborview Hotel has an excellent selection of restaraunts, the Harborview hotel is well known not only here in Okinawa but also throughout Japan. It is one of the, if not "the" top hotel in Okinawa, it is a part of ANA, All Nippon Airways.
The food at any of the restaurants places can be counted on to be very good. Along with excellent service.
Here is a link in English to the Harborview Hotel (http://www.harborview.co.jp/en/)
The Bellevue (http://www.harborview.co.jp/en/restaurant/bellevue.html) is a great French Restaurant locted with in the hotel.
It is very close to both Kokusai Street and Hwy 58. It would be relatively easy to get there from any location on the island.
Oh btw....forgot to wish you and your wife a Happy Anniversay!:D

I'll second that. Though expensive, you will get great food & service. It used to be the gold standard for hotels in Okinawa, though places like the Busena Resort and others in the Yomitan and Onnason area have taken over these days. The Loisir Hotel (http://www.loisir-naha.com/english/pages/restaurant.html) seems to have taken the new No. 1 spot in Naha these days, and also has French dining and a better view and is reasonably close to Kokusai Street.

I can vouge for the Loisir for its Chinese food, a friend....ooppss I wont go that far but the Chinese food there is great.
For French however I would take the Harborview. That is my opinion of course. I've eaten at both locations a number of times and to my tastes the Harborview is head and shoulders above Loisir overall.

Anyone know anything about the Vietnamese restaurant in the Naha Kokusai area? I saw an article somewhere about it a bit ago, but can't recall where. Thanks.

If you go for Chinese, you can't beat the Kariyushi Hotel, 8th floor. Great view of the sea also.

Are you talking about the Urban Resort at the Tomari Port? That is a great view as well.:thumbup1:

It's called Dao. It's on Chuo Ichiba Dori. The one the public market is on. It's above Maru-ichi Meat supermarket. Cheap and really good.

FYI, to get there go to about halfway down Kokusai Street to the Mutsumi Bashi intersection. It is a "T" intersection with Kokusai Dori crossing the "T" across Okiei Dori. There is an "X" cross walk there as well.
Anyway you will see the OPA building on Kokusai, enter the Market street there on the left next to OPA, go straight down up the street and Maru ichi meat will be on your left hand side.

Good luck finding the place:D, it has a great reputation for cheap good food just as eel wrote.

You got it all right except you'll find it on your right-hand side, if you turn off of Kokusai Street and walk toward the public market.

Try the 4-star hotels in Shuri. Both have lunch and dinner buffets at reasonable prices. The presentation is elegant (good for a date) and sumptuous (great for big eaters). You'll get real silver cutlery, starched tablecloth, white glove /tuxedo service in both. The last time we went the price per person was 1500-1700 yen for lunch and 3000 for dinner. But call to confirm.
Hanagasa, 15th floor revolving "sky" restaurant at the Miyako Hotel. Panoramic view of Naha & Shuri.
Serena, 4th floor at the Nikko Naha Grand Castle by JAL. Garden view. You can request for a nice quiet corner table. This is where I ate all-you-can-eat Wellington tenderloin steak and gravy like a king,
One other thing: my wife thinks that the best dessert selections are at the Miyako, the Grand Castle and the Loisir. (You find the exact same things at each lobby for 500-600 yen per portion so you feel you get your money's worth back just by eating dessert.)
Additional tip: in Okinawa, on the 22nd day of each month, most places (restaurants, cinemas, etc..) have a two-for-one deal or special discount for couples.

The buffet at harbor view hotel in naha is really nice. It's a tad expensive but the food is good, and the atmosphere is classy.
Harbor view hotel is the hotel that the emporer stays at once he is visiting okinawa.

Isnt the Miyako hotel currently closed for remodeling or destruction? Dont know which but went by there not too long ago and it looked like it was shut with construction scaffolding going up.
It was either there or the yubun chokin kaikan...cant remember which.
But I agree Hanagasa is very nice as well. Havent been there in quite a while.:D

Hanagasa is nice too, but we usually go there for the lunch buffet. Not sure if dinner is worth the extra cost. View is really nice though. Haven't been in over a month, so not sure about construction or not.
