The Patriots are cheaters and should be banned for the rest of the year for what they did. The head coach I believe just lost his status as a great coach. I hope the commish takes more than their draft picks away.
This proves that the pats might not even deserve their past superbowls. Who knows how long this has been going on. They probably been doing it cause they could't win.

Just the coaching staff should be banned, let the players do their thing. They could always use the coaching staff from the practice squad.

For how long do you believe this punishment should last?
For how long do you believe this punishment should last?
Depends how much evidence that they have. I really dont know.
Yet to be fair, all teams that have done the same thing should be fined the same as well.
Personally I think it also calls into question somewhat the so called genius of Bill Belicheck. However if if they stole all the signals from all their games they still have to perform on the field.

Do you think he still has a place in the HOF? Or do you think his name should have an asterik next to it? (kinda like the Barry Bonds argument?)
From what I have read and heard on this, it isn't new...many of the coaches who worked under him, knew of this happening. I agree that the coaching staff should be banned from games, practices, meetings, etc..for about 6 games.

Wait.. they were getting a leg up on the other team... by copy a secret singal some guy used standing on the side of a field... I DON'T THINK THAT'S A BAD THING!!
Coaches go to scout out the other teams all the time... watching last years game... go to the other teams game the week before they play them...
If you were going to play catch with someone... it would be nice to know before hand if he was going to through you a baseball or nitro.

No these guys have been video recording the other teams plays from the other side. Remember they are in the same division so there big rivals. Been going on for a while too.

You make a good argument, and I'm not so naive...I understand that cheating happens in all sports. But as Fonze mentioned, they were using technology to record the signals. Just watching alone may not tip you off, but recording something and then playing it over and over, may give you the secret!

well it was the same guy that escorted off the field for the same reason, he got busted last yr for. So it's been an ongoing thing for the team. The NFL has more drastic measure rules in place that seperate them from your normal HS or College team, there is an actual rule that they cannot record/investigate any other teams practices/games whatsoever. It is basically a sit down and study old video setup.
They had problems with interference on some of the listening dishes and recievers down on the field level, so that goes to show somebody was probably jacking the signal to be used along with the video since it's so loud at times.
I caught the end of a good commentart last night on ESPN, even though it's 2 days later. But they were talking about the same issue, now if they have been doing this and it's proven that could mean the loss of thier rights from up to thier 3 past SB wins.
I'd hate to say it but alot of these major league sports businesses are either turning more corrupt or just flat out stupid because they cannot control people who they are paying millions of dollars to a yr. Thats why I watch the NHL, they let the players fight it out, if you lose the fight oh well go sit in the penalty box for 2 mins. and come back to play. They had thier 1 bad yr and since then it's been good, and you can't cheat recording the other teams signals.

Let's see, Belicheck was fined $500,000, the team fined $250,000, and they will lose draft picks next year depending upon where they finish this season!

Only problem with NE is they were dumb enough to get caught. The guy that was busted was stupid enough to get busted before in Green Bay...why in the hell would you have him do it again?

You think it is bad pro's do this crap......least money is involved (paychecks)
The same type of thing is taking place in our peewee football league.
Freaking ridiculous!!! IMO
If you can't win by being a better team and being able to play the game & you have to manipulate the situation in order to win, Then perhaps you need to re-evaluate what you are doing.

Norv Turner (Chargers coach) was interviewed earlier (today?) and said that cheating in the NFL is nothing new. He was not surprised to hear about it, but surprised to hear that the Pats got caught!

Pats just scored. Way to easy!!
I think that it is happening more than anyone will admit to.

Or at least until now. I would bet that if any other teams were doing it they are not now.
That is until the next team gets caught!

I'm sorry....but this is just funny. It's just a damn game. If the stakes have gone so high as to fine a coach 500,000 dollars, well, much like everything else in life, it just aint me.
I don't like baseball much anyway. :)

Yeah, and the refs should chill out on the rough-housing calls, allow more high sticking, etc. And let the players shoot steroids!
Man, what a great game it would be then eh? Professional wrestling with REAL injuries!!!!
