Do the other DJ's monitor this as well?
Are they aware of the seperate AFN forum?

Would be nice of them to join the forum and speak their minds.

I think more would jump in if it weren't just all b@ll bashing of them. As of now, Samy has been the only one with b@llz enough to step up, listen, and address some of you.
For as much antipathy some of you have directed at him, you should at least appreciate his willingness to do so. I don't think he or the other djs mind criticisms, however, there is something to be said about some giving credit where credit is due and how graciousness is a characteristic that allows that.

I did notice today on the radio that Weatherly openly bashed some poor guy that called in yesterday (I think he has called in many times). Anyway he created a little montage and played it for like 2 minutes just totally embarrasing the poor guy. Kinda like an abuse of power though if you ask me.

Does it matter? if So then maybe one should look into why some are bashing certain djs. I can't comment really. I've only heard certain things about certain situations from other people on this board. Which means I lack the credibility to discuss it any further.
If others want to come forward to discuss those issues so be it. I personally don't care.
And yes at least Sammy has the stones to come on here face the gauntlet.

nah..just some guy who would call in and bug him for a certain song and then give him hell because the station didn't have it. The guy wanted to hear Joe Satriani, and Weatherly had told him before that they didn't have it. I don't know how often he called, I just heard it yesterday for the 1st time.
Anyway, Weatherly made a little montage, using yesterday's call, and made the guy look like a real idiot. I'm guessing I missed something somewhere, and the guy must've given Weatherly a lot of shit before or something. Still...just seemed wrong to me, and kind of childish.
What seemed weird was Weatherly putting down Satriani's music. I've always thought the guy was a really good guitar player.

If the guy's real name and his unit were not broadcast, it is kind of hard for me to see how a montage would make a guy look like an idiot. Music montages are just funny no matter what message they are trying to convey.
Damn, if a dj made a montage blasting PETA or some phantom sense of myself, I would see it as an honor and probably laugh my ass off. I suspect Bin Ladin has made the military and Bush look more like an idiot than Weatherly did with his montage at this guy calling in a lot asking for the same song over and over that they didn't have.
And WTF, how many times do you have to be told they don't have the song before it sinks in? Geeesh!

Let's see...small island, only one station to listen to, guys voice isn't that common...I can see how he could be easily identified by his friends/peers. I'm not really saying that he shouldn't be belittled as much as NO listeners should be belittled. Meh...no big deal either way.

I don't know...a lot of people here have to be told things over and over again.
And WTF, how many times do you have to be told they don't have the song before it sinks in? Geeesh!
Also, seriously, it's Satriani... You don't hear me calling every day for my favorite song from Phish's first album (Junta). Even if they had it, it wouldn't fit in with any of the other music they were playing... Not to mention, each of the songs is about 8 minutes long...
Common sense where?

I heard some more crap today around 4pm on my way to eat sushi. Also the dj (not sure who) was talking about some new tour where people go around and learn about the items in japanese grocery stores. As if it all came from mars or something
"Have you ever wondered what the stuff is with all the japanese on it? Wondered if its safe to eat?" What is this a third world country or something? Haha... it made me laugh.

Yeah if the pictures that are usually on the product don't help out then what good is the tour gonna do :D
This over here is the store's clam bucket. You can scoop out all the clams you want and buy them. If you poke them with the spoon, they'll squirt you too.
And over here, we have ozaku potato chips. These are the bomb.
Ok, guys, stay near me.
In this area, we've got about 30 different brands of awamori. Each one tastes slightly different, but after three or four glasses, you really won't give a damn, so get the cheap one unless you've actually learned the difference, and if you've already learned the difference, you're most likely not on this tour.
Now up here we have our checkout girl. Don't be fooled. She may look about 12 years old but I assure you, she's 17!
Ok, on toward the exit. Over here we have a tiny AU shop. You can pick up a new cellphone (or pay your bills) at your very own grocery store! Super!
And that's the grocery tour. Drop by next time for a tour of 58 from Urasoe to Chatan, one of the nastiest strips of road on island!

All,
There is a complete absence of nuts on the part of the DJ's, particularly Weatherby.
It takes gargantuan, steel-reinforced testes to endure the heartless ridicule of an online forum.
Furthermore, his puerile skit depicting the aforementioned caller in a negative light confirms his penchant for on-air bullying and otherwise negative, deragatory behavior towards his audience.
I'm amazed the grand emperor of ass-hats manages to get calls, considering his choleric temperment and foul treatment of listeners. In fact, he's completely unabashed in assessing his own decrepit character, stating, "I know I'm a jerk," on multiple occasions.
I'll say it for the record, weatherby: NO BALLS!
There's enough testosterone in this forum to re-awaken the libido of south Florida (fortunately noone has tapped into - there's too many Floridians right now). In fact, weatherby is probably intimidated, quaking in his boots as he reads this post...

Weatherly says,
"If you have a complaint, then send an email with your information to james.weatherly@kadena.af.mil. Better yet, call in person to 645-2300. I am more than happy to field legitimate complaints or questions. However, I don't take anonymous complaints seriously."

And for the record, because Weatherly is my teammate and good friend: He has the cahones, and is a good dude. The whole asshole thing is a thing he does on the air. Some people get it, and some people don't. From my perspective, if you don't like it, turn it off.
Taking one anonymous person's feelings and complaints seriously is another. Listen to his show and how many people listen and call in. Listen for the music if you don't like him, but I feel he is being shed in a negative light. He has the balls to go on the air every day. Do you?
and BTW, Zach--It's "Weatherly", not "Weatherby".

Found this on wikipedia :p
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asshole
Asshat is a slightly trendier and less severe variation of asshole, graphically describing someone who has his “head up his own ass” (i.e., not knowing what’s going on): one is wearing one’s ass for a hat. A more modern usage of asshat describes a person doing something stupid, and can apply to anyone: “The boss is up to asshattery because he broke the computer even though he knew he was doing the wrong thing.” This meaning was popularized by Something Awful (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Something_Awful) character Jeff K. The word is popular in many online communities, serving as a more palatable version of its antecedent.
According to Google (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google)’s Usenet statistics, the word only saw a token appearance every day or two starting in July 1999, but following a slow rise in 2002, it entered popular usage in May 2003. As it continued to grow in popularity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popularity), asshat began to be used by online gamers, in first person shooter and massive multiplayer role playing games. It was a commonplace word on servers where vulgar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulgar) language was not allowed.
The insult assclown is used in a similar fashion, although it is not as common. Assclown has become well known among fans of World Wrestling Entertainment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Wrestling_Entertainment) (WWE) due to wrestler Chris Jericho (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Jericho) using it during his promos, especially his “Highlight Reel”. The term was also used in the film Office Space (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_Space) to describe singer-songwriter Michael Bolton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bolton). “Assclown” is also used by radio personality Todd Schnitt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Schnitt).
Asstard is another rarer variant upon the ass- theme. It is possibly a portmanteau of asshole and retard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retard) and has almost the same meaning as asshole, but with a greater implied connotation of stupidity. An identically spelled version of the same word is a contraction of asshole and bastard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegitimacy), with a commensurately more abusive meaning.
Asspit is a descriptive noun following this construction, used to describe places that are run-down or dirty, as in: “This house is an asspit.” It has a generally pejorative connotation.

I dont know who it was last night on my drive home I was listening to, it was after 5 or so, but the guy did a great job interacting with the comedians that he had as guests on his show.:D:D, I can remember what specific joke it was but just tell him he damn near made me run over a poor Japanese HS kid riding on his bike, going through a red light no less, because I was laughing so damn hard.:D
The only thing I would have to complain about it is next time warn us poor listeners that driving and listening to AFN are not condusive to long life.:D
Keep up the good work. Like I've been saying all along here, if people dont like it they have a few choices, change the channel to 648AM:rolleyes: or shut the damn radio off.
I would love to see some of the people that constantly bitch about what you guys do trade places with you guys and see how much better they could do it.
Why doesnt AFN run a contest giving assholes a chance to be a DJ on the radio for a day, and if they cant handle it have some kind of penalty set up that they would have to pay, like go stand out on the side of Gate Two street, just outside of the gate wearing nothing more than a jock strap with a sign board saying something like "I LUV AFN"

I have lived in parts of Japan where there was no 24 hour Eng radio or tv, and believe me, when you go months on end without hearing some natural back and forth chatter from English native speakers that is not scripted, it is a treat.
So, whenever I think about complaining about AFN to a high degree, I try to recall that time when I first got to Okinawa and had a good feeling of just being able to hear the natural banter of English.
All in all, I think AFN and the dj's do an all right job.

I hate to break it to you, but there is already one DJ with asshole/ass-hat/asstard tendancies, and I can only infer it is commonplace for AFN to place random assholes on the air based on the midday show by Weatherby.
Listening to that amateur horseshit is like having my ears jabbed with knitting needles. I used to enjoy my lunch breaks; now I struggle not to regurgitate as I endure the ass-hat parade that is broadcast without interruption in my shop.
I'm sick of hearing that AFN, "really isn't that bad." Don't try to gloss over the steaming pile of dogshit that is AFN. It's a terrible excuse for a radio station, but like one post mentioned, it is the only source for English dialogue and wholly American music. However, the institution is by all appearances a half-assed monopoly with no clear effort made to uphold quality standards. I've heard raving assholes, drooling morons, stuttering freaks, blabbering dorks, mindless motards (plenty of motards), and many other negative archetypes, NONE of whom had any business opening their suck in front of a microphone. Years of enduring this aural guillotine have probably contributed to my developement as a professed asshole.
Samy, I really saw Weatherby's cohones when he had to address our forum through a fellow DJ. Now that's bold! Weatherby, if you're reading this, you not only suck as a DJ, but you're tragically ignorant in regards to music - Joe Satriani is a fine musician who you flippantly slandered in an effort to further degrade your dwindling audience, no doubt appalled and repulsed by the oppressive, suffocating method with which you deal with innocent, helpless callers merely interested in hearing their favorite song. If you're still reading, then you should take my next bit of advice to heart: start looking for an alternative career. Since you've announced you're intentions to separate, I'm intrigued by you prospects in the civilian world. I don't know too many employers who'll hire an angry (ok - a that's a tad hypocritical), slothful, untalented hack who stayed on-air simply because AFN is a vacuous nothing in terms of DJ ability.
Yes, I'm an asshole - but walk in my shoes for a little while, Sammy, Weatherby, or anyone else who wants to dismiss me as just a bitter prick.
SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: LISTENING TO AFN FOR PROLONGED PERIODS INCREASES YOUR CHANCES FOR DICKISHNESS, AND MAY CAUSE STUPIDITY/BIRTH DEFECTS.
That is all.
Last time I listened to the request show (afternoon show?) a while back, the DJs refused to play New Kids on the Block, and the time before that they called Hey Delilah crap, so... I was pretty impressed with them after that. And you know what! I can't remember the last time I heard that craptastic Delilah song!
But I've only been listening to AFN about an hour a day lately. Been too busy with other gunk at work lately and I keep forgetting to turn on the radio...
:cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing:
Bet it felt good to get that off your chest! Holy hell!
Satriani is an amazing guitarist, but so is Steve Vai, Trey Anastasio, Buckethead, etc. You're not going to hear them because they're not even remotely mainstream. In expecting AFN to own every single CD on god's green earth, you're expecting too much. Why, oh why, would AFN have Satriani, Vai, and Buckethead cds/songs when they'll likely only be requested once a year if that.
I LOVE Trey Anastasio as a guitarist, but you won't hear me calling in to hear _____ song from his latest solo album. There is zero chance they have it unless they got it by mistake or some fluke.
But... you're not the person who called in for Satriani are you. What exactly did he say about Satriani anyway?

Like I said, I hope he's telling a story. Not to mention that your pretty lame if you decide to kill yourself over a girl, which is what the topic of the song is.
