I'm curious to know because I don't have any personal experience with this subject.

What are your thoughts on the universities in Okinawa(Japanese)?

Anyone out there been enrolled in one? Know of someone who has?

Thanks.

One of my buddies went to Ryukyu University, but he played the sanshin like a god, and he could read kanji and sung in hogen. so good luck.

I know their marine biology program is one of the top ranked in the world, but overall, I dont think you can judge any school, you have to judge each individual dept. indepently.

Yeah, I can agree with the last statement.

Have any personal experiences with any university in Okinawa?

me personnally,no, but I know, thats one thing I learned in the US, when I was looking into Tufts in the US, about possiibly pursuing a marine biology degree, they worked a co-op with Ryu-Kyu, and Tufts is ranked 1 in the world for this degree.

BeforeI came here, that is the only thing I have ever heard of Ryu-Kyu U.

I went to Okinawa International University for a year as an exchange student. I studied Japanese with those overseas students who were studying to enter the university. I would say if you took the pre-entrance course you could enter with the equivalent of JPT 2 But you would have to have a good level of Japanese to start with. without taking the course you would need JPT 1 witch is pretty much the standard. As for the merits of studying at a Japanese university for those at institution other than national university its pretty much a formality to pass at the end as long as you attend, hence the phrase "hard in easy out". Entrance levels are dropping these days due to lack of student and the rise of senmon gakkos of most universities, they are other than Ryudai which is a national university where the fees are half that of private ones; they are first and foremost businesses. Though I have been told that competition for places at Okikokudai is still quite tough. Also Okinawan private universities are much cheaper than in the mainland so a lot of naicha students come down here to study and play for four years.
