Are there any good web browsers available for the Sony PSP, other than the piece of crap that comes with it?

It wasn't an issue for me before but, having recently purchased a wireless router, it's an issue now.

How do you like the PSP? What was your reason for getting it? I've been looking at them recently.

Anyone here know if I buy one locally...will the menus all be in Japanese, or are they switchable like on the DS?

I'm 99.9% positive that you can change the menus to english. IIRC the first time you start up the system is asks you what language you want the menus to be set to.

There may be some homebrew browsers out there, but I doubt they are as good as the official browser. pspupdates.qj.net would be a good place to start looking for a homebrew browser.

docp: i have a PSP and I only like it because I put a custome firmware on it. I really don't like the discs it uses, so I have all my games as ISOs on a memory stick. I also have homebrew software like emulators and stuff. if you buy a japanese one, you can change the language to English. Both of my PSPs are Japanese and I haven't had a problem. Funny you mention the DS...I found out the hard way that the Japanese version of the new DSi doesn't allow you to change the language.

Ps3 /psp games are region free, the only issues you have is umd's which are region coded...my advice is to wait for the psp go as UMD games will be come obsolete... future games fir psp will be available for download from the PS homepage

I bought my PSP to play Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, during break time at work. It has a great screen, good sound,etc.....

A later firmware update provided wireless internet access, and I've recently purchased a wireless router. The connection is ok, the browser sucks.

What I would like to use it for these days, is watching Battlestar Galactica, while the wife is watching Japanese tv, or maybe watching a program while the wife is shopping at the commissary.

A lot of places on-off base are providing wireless access these days to customers. It would be great just to be able to watch what I want, when I want, while the wife is shopping.:old::grin1:

Buy a big memory stick and load it up with BSG or other videos, don't even have to worry about the internet.

the lack of a qwerty keyboard on the PSP makes it difficult to for me to browse the web.
i dont think game systems make for good computers.

Hmmm, the virtual keyboard is good enough. A qwerty keyboard would be nice, but the browser sucks. I'm not looking to twitter, or any other such stuff, just looking for responsive browser along the lines of Firefox, or even Opera.

i think the only people who get a real use out of those browsers are kids or people who lack full fledged computers in their household. People who don't have readily available access would resort to using them. The limited functionality of the hardware of game systems makes standard web surfing a chore in comparison to full PC browsing.

The Wii, DS, PS3, etc. all have browsers but for the average PC user, they fail in comparision to versitality. Like I said, kids might use it cause they dont have the funds to buy their own laptop or desktop.

I only use the browser on my ipod for quick lookups. Only reason that the ipod is useful at all with internet access is because of the apps. Google maps, voip, youtube, etc all exist as separate apps instead of just working within the browser itself.

I messed around with browsing on my son's DS, but it's nothing more than a novelty.
