I also think it's funny that people always complain about it. Joiner just plays with these topics. Listen to someone like Rush and his "Barack the Magic Negro" rants. That's what I call B.S.--Rush Limbaugh.

I listen to the Joiner show when driving home from work sometimes. I don't like their kind of music, but am usually amused by the banter between the hosts and guests. I don't listen very often and definintely not for the news aspect of the show. I listen to his show as entertainment.

I also listen to the Rush and Ed Schultz shows when driving home from work sometimes. I find myself shaking my head at both of them. I find it amusing that they both go off about the same things, but from opposite sides of the court. The thing is, they both yell for no apparent reason, which bugs. Eh.

The Tom Joiner Morning Show is racist. Hands down. I have heard numerous jokes and negative comments made towards asians, hispanics and whites on that show. I don't see how this is acceptable for a government run station to air. They came down hard on Imus for what he said I don't see how this show is any different.

Could one in the military say similar jokes as he does in the presence of black or whites here, and expect to not get cluncked, or do so in front of an officer and it will fly by without no problem?

That was more or less the point I was making. With all the EO classes and complaints going around in the military I found it hard to believe a segment such as The Tom Joiner Morning Show would find a home on AFN.

I can find humor in just about anything but unfortunately not everyone can.

If I said half of the shit thats mentioned on his show to one of my colleagues at work, I would be turned into the EEO in a heartbeat. When you go to the EEO and say that the TJMS is racist and I think it should be thought about taken off the air, all they say is can't do anything about that. Go figure.

Oh...poooooleeeeease. Rush engages in the most childish schoolyard bullying name-calling ever seen on the radio waves. e.g. feminazi, Ze Reverrrrrean Jeeeesie Jacthson, Senator Depends, drive by media, etc...

Though, I do agree it is entertaining, just as is the Tom Joiner show. But, it is one of those that draws one to looking at a freak show.

All these years, and I still wonder why Rush, besides appearing only on D. Letterman and Leno to take some soft questions from a non-dittohead, has never made himself available to a neutral forum to debate those he rails so much against.

I think he is naked when not behind his golden microphone.

He may not degrade the present Republican President, but I have heard him often degrade the former Democratic President - Clinton. He attacks the Democratic leadership ad nauseum. Furthermore, I don't think the military is above reproach.

He is really biased, and that's okay. He is not one that I would listen to though if I wanted factual information. He is all about his views and cherry picks facts/opinions to suit his own political agenda.

I listen to TJ as well at times. I think there are racial overtones in the program, but I listen. I like the music, and I like hearing the conversation among themselves.

Maybe AFN allows for all these different shows, like Rush, Shultz, and TJ as an attempt to give some entertainment to the audience, as well as insuring there is not just one viewpoint being aired.

On a normal FM station, 99%of the time, it is music. AFN decided not to fix the AM (which is where most radio stations broadcast from) tower, so the ****er fell. Hopefully in Oct when the fiscal money comes around, they will put a new tower up. *fingers crossed* Maybe Samy knows more...

As for Rush, I know about his Clinton times as I listened to him then also. He didnt exactly degrade him, or discrase him or what he did, he simply gave his opinion reguarding what he was doing with the country. Also, I totally hear where you are comming from with his ways in 'preaching' ...and sometimes I turn the dial if I feel im being preached to. I will argue the fact though, that sometimes he does have some pretty solid FACTS which he talks about on his show.

With that, I do agree on most of what you said. I turn him *TJ* on every once in a while, yea, I dont mind the music, but what I do disagree with are his straight up racist comments which are made on a daily basis. And thats the real problem I have, with it being on a MILITARY radio station.

I am on the fence about this show. One of the things that does annoy me about it is when the person who makes a crack or joke, they laugh at their own joke. I mean, not like a chuckle, but serious belly laughs, as if they had told the funniest thing in the world and then laugh at it themselves. Gets old after a while.

im not easily offended, the joiner show does not offend me. i think its great african americans have a voice on the airwaves, shout it out. but what does bother me is that it is a govt sponsered radio station and things said during that show does not promote equality/ one world etc. i first noticed this back when that white girl came up missing in mexico or where ever and i was driving home and the joiner show was on and for 30 minutes all i heard was oh...if she was black this...or oh if she was black that.... altho there prob is some truth in those statements it made me (a caucasion male) feel guilty and im not racist at all!

What I found real funny was people at work that would complain about the "Jonathan and Mary show". They had some stupid comintary, but it was never anything close to what Tom Joiner spews out.. and they play a lot more music.
