I can't comment or begin to verify whether these size comparisons, or the information presented are accurate. But hell, it sure is pretty damn interesting, and does make you think about how big our universe could possibly be.

(Yeah the size of the chart was pretty big so I decide to just post the link.)

Damn... That's incredible. That is one big ass star! That's a star, right???

Yeah, that last big ass star is supposedly the largest know star yet discovered (not sure if they mean largest known star in our galaxy). But damn, that thing is huge, larger, much larger than our solar system.

edit to add: clicked on the link, correction, almost as big as our solar system itself.

Well, thanks, Doug. I am no longer impressed by our own solar system. Way to go. lol.

outstanding post doug...

i remember when i was a kid my dream was to be an astronomer/astronaut... (didnt happen) LOL.. but i spent years of my youth study the stars, constellatations and other galaxies.... i always was amazed at the sheer size of our universe.. to this day i still go out of my way to watch tons of documentaries on stuff like this...

on a side note... i am still young and have a whole new GI bill to pursue studies of this nature.. i think i just might....

He makes astronomy/astrophysics interesting. :) My dad was huge into astronomy but I never took on the fervor he had.

Ever see that map that shows our solar system within the Milky Way, with the Andromeda galaxy on a collision course? We are so tiny, not even a dot within our own galaxy, much less space itself.

My friend was on the team that just launched the latest satalyte. It takes 1000 high res photos a second or something like that, and is looking for other earth-like planets. In two weeks during the test phase, they found another binary star system.

Asshat-waiting for the quasar.
