I am craving some green mangos. Not the ones that are ripe, but the unriped ones. Where can I find them?? I don't see them at the commissary or anywhere else. Please help!! I often eat them back in the states...anyone know where I can get some?
Thanks!!

Try those farmers markets or places where they sell lots of local fruits and vegetables!
There are some in ishikawa not too far from exit 8,one by exit 6 also,if you are up for a drive head to itoman there is a large farmers market where they sell lots of mangoes but some of them are pretty expensive saw one the size of a childs head for 7000 yen!
If it is exit 8, then it is not Ishikawa any longer.
I agree with what he is saying though...check the local mom/pop stands, you'll probably come out cheaper and have better luck finding a green one. There are quite a few trees near my house that are out in the open...you could pick them free there as no one is tending to them anymore!

LOL!!! I would feel like I'm stealing if I go pick them. I don't want someone to see me picking them mangos and someone come by yelling at me. I'd feel like a little kid again stealing green apples from the neighbor...lol. Umm...I'll look around the farmers market and hope I can get them at a cheap price. 7000 yen is alot for a mango..but if I can't find them I just might pay for it at that price. Thanks for the info. though.
You could probably pay a kid half that to pick them for you!

LOL!! In that case I'll just have my daughter go pick them for me. LOL...I won't pay her, but I'll let her eat the mangos with me. If she wants money I think a $5 dollar will do. lol.

That's too funny!! But dang...I'm not sure if I can finish a mango that big, just have to eat and eat and eat and eat it all day until I can't eat it anymore to have my money's worth of the mango. Where's the little size mango when you need them...just the size of a fist is all i need. Darn!!

Do mangoes come from trees?
Cause if they do why don't more people plant them instead of paying outrageous prices? Then sell them to tourist for cheaper and force the big comanies to lower prices

I thought they came from a vine, like watermelons.

Yes, they grow on trees...and just planting them can get quite expensive. Tending to them is a bitch, and typhoons can wreck havoc on them!
I know of a few people (some Americans) that supplement their income by growing mangos. I've thought about it, but my yard just won't allow it.
