last night i found a dog on the 224 at Gushikawa High School in traffic, normally i wouldn't stop but the dog was in traffic, and i was in no hurry to be anywhere.
so now i have this dog and i dont know how to find his owners. i've heard that locals will just let their dogs out and expect them to come home, so how do i go about finding his owners?
should i just put up signs?

見つけられた犬

thats what apple gives me as the translation to "found dog" is that correct?

he seems to be well taken care of, he's a young (1-3 years old) grey poodle mix good with other dogs and cats, playful, he's wearing what looks like a brand new white collar, he's clean and wasnt hungry when i found him. i am sure that he belongs to someone he's a very nice little dog. & he loves my dog

Check the family marts and lawsons in the area. I often see missing dog posters at convenience stores. The only Japanese dog pound I know of on island is the one in Ozato.

And Any close by Vet offices...
Also, If you have time, Make some flyers and post them around where you found it. We did that once and in 2 days the owners contacted us!

And they'll gas them in about 2 weeks. If you have time, try to find the owners, maybe some grade school kids in the area you found the dog will know. Most likely, the owner has kids.

If all else fails, give him a name and welcome him to the family.

There is a slim chance the dog is microchipped too; so maybe a vet can check.

Thank you all for your help. Especially you P_Chan i have been by the lawsons every day since you posted this and today there was a flyer up with his picture, this evening he was (after much confusion due to language barrier) reunited with his owner. she was very grateful that i took care of him.
thanks again everyone for your help.
