I know some of you suggested Naha as a place to go that isnt as ummm, crappy or sausage infested as Gate 2. Im going to take a cab down there tomorrow night, wondering what some good places are, Kokusi Street any good? I heard that name a few times.

Is there a better(cheaper) way to get down to Naha from Futenma?

Catch an Oki bus. Hitchhiking is free. Many clubs around on side alleys/roads off of Kokusai Street.

A rather popular hangout for many "foreigners" is Paul & Mikes, it is across the street from Mitsukoshi Department store on Kokusai St. It is run by two Canadians and is not that expensive.

I'm not sure how to spell it but I heard sicoro (SP) is a good place to go, I want to go there. Just don't go to begreens (SP). It's painfully loud and smoky in there. You can barely see someone's face who is sitting across the room.

Please go with a friend though. It's safer and more fun. Take a camera to fit in with the tourists. ;) Enjoy!

My favorite is Hinotama Hall near Naha Mainplace in Shintoshin. They mainly play dance music (bossa nova, deep house, house, hard house, trance, psy.trance, etc). Depending on the day, they pretty much cover the whole spectrum. Staff are probably the friendliest I've found anywhere on island. The drinks are just so-so, but they're cheap, and the mood is ALWAYS nice.

Ever been to the Salsa place near OTV? That place has some seriously great looking women there, well at least each time I was there.

Must be my magnetic personality:barf: :-|

Someday....I think that the majority of my partying days are now limited to sitting in an izakaya drinking beer and awamori and enjoying good drunken conversation.:dead: :old: :D

Izakaya are great places to eat food, ala carte, and awamori is the local Okinawan sake. Izakaya range from the big franchised kind of places to small little corner bar mom and pop run establishments as well.

Yakitori, stir fried foods, shashimi, sushi all types of food, can be found at an izakaya. Literally translated it means fishermans club.

Plus depending on place, well most are pretty cheap, they wont empty your wallet and are typical starting points before going out to......................

Yeah, that would be a good idea.....oh wait, I forgot, im not gay......something about dancing with anyother guy that just doesnt seem right

Believe me at the Salsa places I was talking about odds are you would NOT be dancing with dk. There are plenty of other types there to fit the bill.

And I kind of guessed that is what you meant in the first place. But just in case dk is a closet gay.... I apologize, I guess my reply wasnt very PC.:D

Edited to add;

Maybe dk is "gay" in the literal sense of the word and not figuratively speaking. lol!

...izakaya. Literally translated it means fishermans club...

I hadn't heard that. I thought the literal translation was residence selling liquor. No doubt often frequented by fishermen on Okinawa. More likely the local nickname of izakaya could be or have been fisherman's club.:)

Izakaya is not part of the local dialect it comes from Japanese. It could also be translated as a pub, tavern, or bar.

I actually have an old dictionary that has the translation as "fisherman's club".

Of course:) Uchinaguchi is not the same as hyoujungo. The real meaning of izakaya (in Japanese) is pub, tavern, or bar...just as you said. If you break the kanji down, you get residence, liquor, and store. But, enough study and on to the drinking! It's 5 o'clock somewhere...:D

Is there still Salsatina in Naha? I thought it was just Bomba Latina they had,
right at the bottom of Kokusai street, on the right hand side on a side street.

Yeah, best way to go down is to jump on a regular bus on r58. atb, just
check with the driver that it is going to Naha or ask for Kokusai street.
You will probably have to get a cab back, about 2,500 yen at the most.

have fun:)

Just that same beat, in just about every song, drives me crazy.

Yeah, there's Salsatina, Caliente, Bomba Latina moved locations (not sure if they survived the move and changes), and maybe a couple more. Not a regular, just go with the guys when the pickins are slim at the regular watering hole.

I got a chance to check out Salsatina on Sat night....it was a bit umm, less then impressive. Could have put Salsatina right on Gate 2 street and it would have fit in perfectly....about 100 guys and maybe 20 women. Place was packed, loud as heck, and essentially just a place to get drunk and grind against each other.
One thing I did realize going out though...Im far older then pretty much everyone out there. I felt like a pedafile talking to girls almost half my age. Oh well, guess I will stick to rum/coke and message boards on the weekends:)

Bumping quite an old thread, sorry for that :)
Tried to check out Paul & Mike's today but couldn't find it... Does that place still exist?

Yeah, Rehab is now on the opposite side of the street Paul & Mike's was on, and about two blocks further toward Makishi Station on the monorail (toward the north end of Kokusai Street). Paul runs the place by himself these days. The sign outside says "Mimi's English Cafe" (the English school that was in the same building as P&M's moved along with the bar).

Last I heard, she'd moved out of Rehab, and into another building a block or two behind the bar (towards the Kumoji River).

Who has been to Bomba Latina the salsa bar on Kokusai dori??? I used to work there 3-4 years ago. Maybe Ive met some of you guys? Names Ryu aka The Bomba Dance Floor Master. haha JUst kidding

About Salsa...At first you might feel stupid or that you just suck but everybody goes through that. Any one who thinks its just stupid or gay doesnt know how to dance it. After learning the basics it starts becoming really fun.

If you want to learn, dont look to getting drunk the first couple nights you go. You wont remember the steps. Have two beers and a soda or something.

Its confusing in the beginning but itll keep getting easier and easier. Before you know it, your going to be going every week to practice and dance with girls!

Dancing must be one of the easiest ways to break the ice between two people. You can dance around, have fun and act silly. You can get a feel for what type of person they are and its a little easier to let down your guard after that first physical touch (dancing).

After you get a little more confident in your dancing you can ask any girl to dance and its easy as hell talking to girls after you dance.

Get exercise, make friends and meet girls! Good shit.

Hinotama Hall in Shintoshin is a good place. Usually have a bunch of girls and a good crowd. Good people and good music. Sound system is pretty good too. THey play different type of music on different days but if your into hard house/techno stuff. The third friday of every month they have a awesome drumnbass event. its like 1500 w/two drings to get in or something.

A tip if you go to Hino. If you want a seat, you better get there early but if you wanna go when its busy, you got to go late. Usually doesnt get crowded until or after midnight. Usually hardely any military and not really a get waisted and hit on girls atmosphere. If you like to dance and mingle, your gonna fit in fine.

Also, Paul and Mikes is a cool place. Good people and they all speak english. Everybody is up for a chat and just there to chill. Allot of non military english speakers there. THe new location is little bit past the Mcdonalds (going away from Palet Kumoji) on the left side, 3rd floor right above a internet cafe.

There are allot of girls in B-Code in Matsuyama on ladies night. (I think it was thursdays) I think they play mostly Hiphop and reggae or something. Now that I think of it, they might not let in military. Im sure if you went with a girl friend you can get in though.

I went to a reggae club that opened up a little while ago called Brown Sugar. Checked it out walking by a couple times but seems like they are only busy when theres a event. Thats located on Okie dori. Thats the intersection with Starbucks. YOu walk down the street on the right side (toward the Monorail). You walk like 2 streets down and its gonna be on the right side. You have to go down some stairs.

Also I heard Bgreen changed management and how they play different types of music and not just hip hop. Havent been but might be worth checking out. ITs located couple yards from OPA the shopping center.

Saicoro is a nice place but dont expect to get in with flip flops. Little bit more "high classish" club feel.

Nikke2 is a cool place but seems to be hit and miss. Usually only the events bring in people. THey are right across the street from OPA. You have to go down stairs.

THeres also MND on the 7th floor in the OPA building and although the club is really cool its also a hit and miss. Im not sure if MND ("Mundo" or something) is still in business. I think they usually rent the place out for different events so some times they have really good partys.

Theres also Club Echo in Naha tower. I havent been for a long time and they seem to be doing construction on the building so im not even sure if they are even open, but if you want to meet girls from mainland japan, thats the place to go. It didnt really seem like a meet people type of place though. THey have a awesome system and plenty of girls but they seem snobbish to me.

Club Air gets pretty crowded with some events. THey are right next to Saicoro. I think its the 4th floor or something. ITs not really a dark dance club though. Its kinda lighted up and there are a bunch of tables and stuff.

I go to all kinds of little weird bars all over the Kokusai Dori area that are chill places but Im not sure I can explain the locations. Just ask if ya really want to know.

Some advice, if you want to go somewhere with allot of people, go to an event. Go to couple of the clubs on Kokusai dori and pick up some flyers from the front desk. They are always there.

Its Friday night! Wooooooooo

I think I remember Paul...he let me in on a rainy night and gave me a beer on the house shortly after I came back from the sandbox 13 months ago, while I was talking with some British cats and a couple of Japanese ladies. :thumbup1: I went there one other time with a couple of my friends and they had no problem getting in. Nikke2
Great post. Lots of great information. Only correctin is that I think this is spelled Nekke2. Or it should be. I knew the management when they first opened, my wife created their original website, and I gave them the name nekke2. It used to be nekketsushakoujou or something, and I told them that there's no way in the world any foreigner is going to want to memorize that. Also, we purchased the name nekke2.com so that people wouldn't have to type nekketsushakoujyou.com or whatever...

Doesn't look like nekke2.com is in use anymore.
