Just downloaded a tech release of MS Office 2010. Still have to burn it to disc, then install it. Give me a few days and I'll let you know what I think of it.

Got Office 2010 installed. Seems to work just fine. All of the apps now appear to have the "ribbon" bar. Sent my first e-mail under win7, and the new office suite.
:scratchchin:
Haven't used Office 2010 yet, but I heard they were going to take some ideas from Office 2008 on the Mac. I have used 2008 and thought it was much better than 2007. It has a very nice, fluid interface that was really comfortable to work in. Hope 2010 turns out good.
OpenOffice needs to get their act together.

Well, there are some things which disappeared in Office 2007, which are now back in Office 2010. The 2008 Mac Edition, is actually a port of 2007. The biggest thing that I've noticed up to this point, most applications now have the "Ribbon Bar" in place. If you're lucky enough to have been working with Office 2007 for a while, it won't be much of a problem when it comes to training.
For people having to work with older versions, it can be rough. Much of the hardware that you are using may have to be replaced. "XP-Mode", only works on systems that support hardware virtualization. The touch screen, only works on systems that support that feature. Mine does not support either feature.
But as soon as Windows 7 appears on the the shelf, I will upgrade.
Haven't played around with 2010 version of Office enough to pass judgment on it. But I'll probably get it when Service pack1 comes out.
I got my copy off of Pirate Bay, just to get a feel for it. I'll play with that until the second "Official Beta" comes out for the public.
My system is 5 years old, and Win 7, once I installed it, almost made me feel as if I had bought a new system. It is that good, that stable, etc....

You know, I've been following the "Technical Release of Office 2010"closely. It's installed on my computer as we speak. Yeah, I got it from Pirate Bay. It's due to be released in June (the beta) from M.S.
Other than the "Ribbon" now available to all applications, and some fixed color schemes for each application.......
Is it worth an upgrade?
At this point, I'm not sure. If you run a shop configured with Office 2007, then maybe. If you're running an older version, and it works for you, well...
The only thing that I have seen to this point, is the inclusion of the "Ribbon" application wide. I've also been watching various sites who have access to this release, and the response has mostly been "Yawn!!"
Once the "Official" Beta is released, I may change my mind.
If you are a Vista user, get Windows 7.
If you run Office 2007, wait.

Well, my "Illegal" copy of Office 2010, stopped working today.:cursing:
The reason for that was that I had never activated the program on-line. Couldn't really, since I had no activation key.
Didn't have enough time to check out the programs as much as I wanted to, but I liked the fact that the ribbon bar is now a platform norm, and the equation editor in PowerPoint is a valuable addition....
Should you upgrade? That pretty much depends on which version of Office you are running. I'm using Office 2007, and the small changes that I've experienced do not justify an immediate upgrade.
Even at this early stage, it seemed to be a pretty solid build. So if you are using older versions of Office, and you are looking to upgrade, Office 2010 should be on your short list.

Ok, I've downloaded and installed the "Official" MS Office Beta (64 bit edition), and as expected, there are a bunch of new things that are fun to play with. In-line Photo Editing, the Office button has been replaced with a tab that says "File" (what Microsoft calls "Backstage view"), Paste Options, Coauthoring, Open Type typography.....
You can grab your free copy at microsoft .com . This time around, they are not charging $1.50 for the download as they did with Office 2007. You will need a hotmail acct, free as well.
If you are using Office 2007, the learning curve isn't much of a problem. If you are using Office 2003, there will be a learning curve, perhaps a steep one. Should you upgrade? I would say it depends on three things:
1. If you are happy with an older version (Office 2003...etc),keep using what you are using. Especially, if that is the version you are using at work.
2. If you are using Office 2007, no real compelling reason to upgrade, unless you want to have "The Ribbon", across the entire application suite or, if you want to explore some of the new features (bragging rites?).
3. If you've purchased a new computer recently, it will probably have a 64 bit operating system installed, so moving up to the 64 bit version of Office would make sense.
I'll probably buy the 64 bit "Office Professional" when it comes out next year, but only because my edition of 2007 is 32 bit.
