View Full Version : For the first time in JU history
For the first time in JU history, the forum in general has become more popular than all of the access on any other section of this website added together. That's wicked and scary at the same time. I think, if anything, it is going to lead us to reconsidering the way we do business on the web.
Here's the stats for this month so far (hits):
195573 /forum/misc.php
180274 /
162341 /forum/showthread.php
120374 /forum/image.php
67978 /classifieds/english/
65434 /forum/photoplog/file.php
56291 /forum/search.php
56075 /forum/chat/getxml.php
The "/" is every other section of the website minus the Autos and Classifieds. For instance, if you click into a story, the URL is http://www.japanupdate.com/?id=9479 for instance, which still gets counted as "/" since I am just using the story ID as a query string.
This is really making me rethink and re-prioritize certain aspects of this website. I'm really excited, and I wonder how things will change because of this.
I count "/forum/misc.php" and "/forum/showthread.php" together as they are two vital areas of the forum.

Just curious, do you have the totals for last month.
Still though, that's on course for over a half million this month.
Page views are the really important stat. I'm not so convinced that our stat page is accurate (never have been). I think we get MORE traffic than they say, but whatever. Here are the results for this month so far in page views:

We get over a million page views per month. Some months/times are better than others, obviously.

I get it now, I'm a little slow.:thumbup:
When I first took the job as webmaster, we were getting around 6000 page views per day, so it's been really exciting watching the website's popularity increase over the years. :)

I would attribute it to a few strokes of luck, honestly. But hard work has also paid off. For instance, when I first created the classifieds (college project), I always found the idea of classifieds to be a bore and never imagined that this app would bring in enough money to pay most of our salaries (well, the website and the classifieds together generate that much...). The classifieds pretty much became an immediate success, which really shocked me. Then, the JU forum, I FINALLY broke down and purchased/installed VBulletin because I was getting sick and tired of DoctorP and TP harassing me to put the forums back online. lol. Much of the forum's success is due to a great team and great members, obviously.
I took over the website in 2001, I believe. By then, most people were already online, Asshole. :D
