I guess I should finally post in here. My name is Brian and I have been on Okinawa about 14 out of the last 21 years. My first tour started in 1986... I have been married to an Okinawan woman for 18 years now. I enjoy driving all over the island with the family as we never get tired of this. Also, I ride motorcycle and recently started Geocaching as a way to pass the time. Pleased to meet you all!

I bought mine at the military clothing store on Camp Foster. It's nothing special, the Garmin ETREX Legend, cost about $125. You can get one over the net cheaper if you want to wait...

So does it have maps of okinawa already in it or did you have to download them.
I was considering getting that exact same one. If you help me out and let me know if it actually works here or not, you bet your ass I'm buying one.:D
:edit: Is this the one?

You can purchase/download maps but they are not needed to Geocache. All I do is send the cache coordinates from the website to my GPS and they use the "go to" option. It leads me to the coordinates with a pointer...

Sweet, I plan on having one by the end of the month.
You said you got yours at the clothing sale on foster? Is clothing sale located near the furinture store?
This sounds like something I'd like to get into when my daughter grows up a little and I'm able to get out of the house more often again.

When you turn at the signal, the furniture store is on one side and the military clothing is in the rear of the building on the other side.
