Most of Japanese will take long vacation between April 25th to May 6th.

Why does everyone take off at the same time? Is golden week a holiday or something? Why is it "Golden" and not "Purple"?

Airfare also jumps as well. We were looking at flying out May 1st before I left and it was at least a 35,000Y (per person) difference from the "pre" Golden Week price.

End of year, New year, Golden week, Summer vacation will be high
cost for airfare.

Yeah, too much. I'm thinking I stay at home or go to watch Super GT
at Fuji speedway in Golden weeks.

What Holidays are during Golden Week? Is there like a Golden Week Tree we have to put up? If we celebrate Cino de Mayo during Golden Week, will we anger the Gods of Golden Week?

This is "Stay Off the Roads" week, because every dummy visiting from the mainland not with a tour is going to pretend they can drive. Instead they'll sit in their cars and watch the tv screen and GPS while the car moves randomly from place to place, stopping every so often along side the road but half way in the lane to get ice cream. It's like Thanksgiving Wednesday on the roads all week.

Remember that there are TWO Golden Weeks this year too.

The one in May and a 2nd one in September when 2 scheduled holidays converge during the same week and the government created a national holiday on the day in between to make the Fall Golden week.

It is Saturday 19th of September until Wednesday 23rd. Monday the 21st is the regularly scheduled Respect for the Aged Day and the 23rd is the other regular holiday Autumn Equinox.
