Who would want to hear the game "Play it or Not" on the radio again?

I would like to hear it!!!!
its a good idea, because I am tired of listening to "party like a rock star" and "hey bay bay" and a host of other catchy yet annoying tunes all day everyday:cursing:

I usually heard it on my drive home and I enjoyed hearing the listeners comments about the song that was either being diss'd or played:thumbup1:

Then again wtf do I know?:-|

I think the game should be changed...if people choose not to play it, then the CD should be destroyed, or mp3 deleted or whatever. Permanently get rid of the song!

I'm just glad that annoying jane noise isn't on the radio when I listen in the mornings or at all. Gawd, she's effing annoying. The Sammy guy and Krull guy are good though. I like that Sammy has the same name as a hamster character in a comic that I like, and Krull sounds like Krull the movie. Heh. Yeah, total geek. :p

The AFN highlight of the day for me is to hear Samy Fineman give the yen rate, time and the temperature!!
It gets me going especially when i forgot MY coffee!!

Maybe on the lines of what DrP said, the game should be changed and called, "Keep it or not." ???

This was done a lot back in the US in the '70's and '80's and they actually listened to the listeners. Play it or not meant that if the people voted "not" then the record was never to be played again on that station! This was actually quite popular. Where I worked we became quite creative on how to destroy the offending record!

What we did in the heyday was not play the song for a day on our live shows. We couldn't exclude it on the satellite feed, though.

It was a chance to hear some really good songs you hadn't heard for a long time though, too. Also genres we normally wouldn't play like Country and others,

you'd have to take more than five yes or no votes though; like maybe ten yes or no votes would be a better sampling.

Yeah, if you were going to do that, but there is now way we could. It just isn't possible. The one day thing seems more feasible,

We had something similar to this on a local radio station near me. But every week they picked a song to battle against another song. The winner went up against a different song the next week. Of course it was a rock station, so the music didn't blow and it was always a hard decision.

I'll say one thing here, I would at least give credit to AFN for doing something to get their listeners more involved in the program.:D

Here's an idea:

Rather than play it or not, why not line up two songs and allow the listeners to choose between the two.

Make one an oldie but a goodie and the other a recent top 40's hit. Call it "Old vs. New" or something along those lines.

For the first show, line up "Bold as love" or "Castles made of sand" by Jimi Hendrix against "Hey Delilah". I want to find out just how stupid (or not) the general population is over here. :D

do you have to call in to place a vote?

Shoot anything to help rid the airwaves of shitty music:)

Or you could play Delilah...then just dead air for 3 minutes and see who wins!

Hey Samy...in this day and age why doesn't AFN use the web...it sure would help your listeners out a lot! Just use the phone for contests and when you want to put someone on the air for filler. Otherwise you could put polls and stuff on a central website, and everyone could see the results.

Feel free to use this website for all your polling needs. Shoot, feel free to run a play it or not poll on this forum every single day if you want.

Harsh hehehe. I'd vote for the three minutes of dead air.

Doc Doc Doc, you were in the military right? Use the web, do something inovative when it comes to quality of life issues.

I'm just saying...the net has been around for like 20years, maybe by now someone there has finished the MCI on how to use it!

You'd think by now at least, but then there are AF people involved as well right?
