Listen, you disrespectful crap, i am not working as a DISHWASHER (like you) or waitress at any food establishments on base or off base and I am not planning on doing so EVER. I am not as desperate as you. Don't you call me any names because you don't even know why i am asking for it.

LMAO! Now your talking. But check this- you didnt state why you need the certification. Im guessing your applying for a job? I never heard of any job on base that required a food handlers liscense before you applied. Are you a child care provider? Maybe check with the family service center.

But I'm not where you are. I'm in Okinawa, and people respect each other over here, at least us Okinawans do, and I know most Americans who are staying here do respect us as well.

Your obvisouly not much in the know if you had to ask where to get a "food handeling liscense" Just WTF kind of work do you do anyway? If your into home delivery or shiot like that I think you can get it from city hall. I tell you what though, if you make any kind of dairy product in Japan where bacteria multiplys fast, its going to be tough to get a liscense. Since your probally a SOFA dependant who is bored out of her mind and is resisting banging somebody at the club, that doesnt apply to you since J regs and SOFA regs are two different animals.

Ok I better had edit that last part.

And get this, if she is Japanese, she shouldnt be asking where to get a food handeling liscense for off base folks. If its an on base deal, just ask the powers that be. I just thought it was a strange question that Ive never heard asked before.

I never SAID I make more than you. I never insulted you and I didnt start crap until you started putting me on blast. I simply said that my crap jobs were easier for ME than the military. The military wasn't really for me so I just did my time and did my best while there and moved on. Now I finally have a career I love and I do make a lot of money. I'm not rich but finally happy for once in my life considering the cards have always been stacked against me. Okinawa has shown nothing but love to me. I can't speak for Mainland I never worked or lived there. I'm sorry if you are having trouble up there, Ik its hard for us gaijin to make it out here but I am never going back to the states. LOL. Now thats the best one Ive read all day, maybe all week. Didnt start out this way lady, believe me, it grows. Lets see. How about trying to find decent housing? Well Im a gaijin so I dont rate. How about work? Well if your white, which I am, well give you consideration but your still made to feel like an outcast. My filipino friend cant find shiot. I could go on and on....but you "cant understand" Well I do, and I understand very well. I will speak up on the subject and well do so often. Get used to it because Im not going away. The thing is all you Japanese expect to be treated as equal as it should be but you have no concept of equality amoungst yourselves. Ive seen some real fuked up bullshiot up here, and it aint touchy feely shiot, real imperial Nanking japan shiot and I didnt know it was like this. So yes, there is some hate, its a real double fuking standard. The word needs to be put out. Some of you try to whitewash everything and do the cute little smiley shiot. Its all fake.

Why don't you just move back to the states? They have better, bigger housing, and the job market is not too good but you won't feel like an outcast. If your Filipino friend grew up in the Philippines, then I do understand why even if it is "hard" to find a job and live in a foreign country, he's still there. Life is hard in the Philippines, I know because I was there for seventeen years, and you'll find Filipinos everywhere because they work hard to provide for family back home or just live a better life.

LOL. Just move on back to that states there gaijin. Please go home, you dont fit into our caste system. Wow, how japanese of you, are you smirking as you type? How many times have I heard that one. Strange thing is, when I was just in Hawaii, I saw hordes of japanese everywhere. Guess they feel welcome. Seems there are hundreds of companines in the states as well, but they are blocked from doing business here. You see, if it benefits you, youll accept but if it requires cooperation or international accpecptance, you decline. You whine on the base or at the embassies about how you cant speak English, but demand that we gaijin speak Nihongo. So you going to have to do better than that my friend, Im not just off the plane. I see Japanese everyday take something made from another country, mindfuk it and they try to explain it to me as if they invented it! Its like your whole DNA is all fuked up...lol! You ever hear of Toyotomi Hideoshi? Born a peasant, he worked his way up the ranks and became Kampaku, or an Imperial Regent (defacto shogun) of Japan. It'd be like Truman or Eisenhower being mustang generals after leaving the projects, then elected president. Oh, and that all happened here by 1584.

Does anyone know where I can get a food handler's license on base or off base?

I had to take a class over by Chibana to get some type of food handlers license so that we could keep one of the clubs I work at open late. I guess if you have a club that stays open late, you are supposed to have some type of food available. I think we went through city hall, and they told us when the classes were held. It was an all day class, all in Japanese. Then I got a certificate with my name on it, and it is supposed to stay at the club so the inspectors can see it.

I think it cost like 3000-4000 yen. I didn't understand too much, but it just seemed like common sense stuff. Like dont throw water on a grease fire and dont cut your chicken, beef and fish on the same cutting board. But for some off-base establishments, the owners and the employees have to have the certificate.

Well comes the ignorance. The Nazi troll did some reading on wiki about Hideoshi. Your comparing apples and oranges, idiot....lol. The peasant Hideoshi....arent you the comedian... we were discussing FORIEGNERS in Japan there brainstorm...have you ever even been to Japan?

When I get back to the states I aint sayin shiot about life in Japan. I can see right now what Im in for....LMAO.
Weren't we talking about how "Obama" could never happen here...but Obama's not a foreigner in the US...you might be surprised to learn that foreigners can't become president in America. It's the law.

Moving on. Of course you know the origin of the word gaijin, what some folks translate as foreigner, don't you?

Calling gaijin a mere contraction of gaikokujin is not historically accurate. According to ancient texts and prewar dictionaries, gaijin (or "guwaijin" in the contemporary rendering) once referred to Japanese people too. Anyone not from your village, in-group etc., was one. It was a way of showing you don't belong here — even (according to my 1978 Kojien, Japan's premier dictionary) "regarded as an enemy" ("tekishi"). Back then there were other (even more unsavory) words for foreigners anyway, so gaijin has a separate etymology from words specifically meaning "extra-national."http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/fl20080805ad.html

As Toyotomi came from the small fishing village of Nakamura (now a district in the city of Nagoya), and the territory of Owari, which is one district in Aichi Prefecture now, he was a gaijin to a good chunk of the rest of the people in the various fiefdoms around the islands that now make up Japan. See, there was no country back then, just a bunch of different domains. No shogunate had complete military control of the country until Toyotomi completed the unification. He never did receive the coveted title of Shogun, though. Bloody peasants!

Richard Burns
04-20-2009, 08:58 PM
Richard, you'll always be a gaijin as long as you live in Japan.

I guess your right but just to get this clear so a Japanese American born to Japanese American parents and never been to Japan a day in their life can come here and not be a gaijin yet one of us can get a Japanese passport and name tomorrow and we're still a gaijin? Hmmm:scratchchin:

Tokyo? No thanks! Visited plenty of times, but have no desire to live there. Lived in other parts of the mainland though, including a place Oda Nobunaga spent a few years, Tokugawa Ieyasu's birthplace, and traveled as many places up there as I could over many years. Good times, and was definitely happy in a small city close to both the mountains and some of Japan's other big cities for fun & games.

Shiot he could even take up citizenship. You seem to know more than most Japanese do about their own history.
Why would I want a third passport? Permanent residence here is plenty. As for history, whenever I discuss it with the locals, they're kind enough to fill in the gaps in the details I do remember.

Ill even give you pointers on how to get it:

Muku

Since this thread is now about Japanese history, food handling, and other SHIOT:D:rolleyes:....I want to talk about the history of breasts getting in the way of people trying to break into other people's homes here in Japan.

Breasts, the food of the God's and no license required either!:D

Hehe, an interesting story on Japanese model Serena Kazakura whose big breasts have not only boosted her career, but also helped her overturn a court verdict (http://fisherwy.blogspot.com/2008/03/serena-kazakura-giant-breasts-won-her.html)

Serena Kazakura. Japanese Model. Big Breasts. Big deal? Well, it’s because of her big breasts that a Judge tossed a guilty verdict of property destruction out the window.
Serena Kozakura was convicted last year of property damage as a man claimed that she had kicked in a wooden door of his room and crawled inside - supposedly because she was furious that he was with another woman. The 38-year-old has a 44 inch bust and there was no way that she would have been able to fit through such a small opening. During the trial, her defense attorneys held up a plate the size of the hole and explained that Serena was too well endowed to have been able to get through. Serena had said previously that the man himself was the one who made the hole.
Judge Kunio Harada threw out the guilty verdict and did not believe the man’s account of what had happened. Kozakura said, “but it was my breasts that won in court”.
Kozakura went on the Asahi network [video below, in Japanese] and demonstrated how it was impossible for her fit through such a small opening.

http://lh3.google.com/fisherwy/R86_MkRCK0I/AAAAAAAANuQ/X434RFWGRuY/Serena%20Kozakura%20and%20her%20big%20breasts%20pi cture%5B3%5D

Just wtf kind of question is that? If your working for MWR in the kitchen, dont they provide the training required? I was a dishwasher years ago and they did for me. Ask the organization your working for dumbazz. Geez.

Explain to me where you are that it is acceptable to call some one a dumb-ass for asking a question.

Perhaps they are considering a job that would require one.
Or they HEARD about a job & they are just checking out what would be required....looking at what they need to do/where they need to go.

Even to serve beverages you need a food handlers permit.
You'd likely need one to run a day care, open a private school or pre-school.
So before you fly off the handle cussing or name calling, Mr.WTF, you could give them a little slack.

BTW, many jobs do require you have food handlers permit in hand prior to beginning to work. Some may offer a little lee-way in that you can start some of your training without it- but you have to have it before you can actually work.
