After all the shit you guys gave me about the "Delilah" song, the people listening on Labor day voted it for a special Labor Day "Play it or Not"

What gives?

Sorry Samy to me "ignorance" is bliss. Maybe some of the regular listeners, I only listen when I am in my car, could answer.

BTW I think you do a great job, considering who you work for.:D:eek::rolleyes:

Dude! I heard that while driving to work! I wanted to call for dk, but don't have a headset for my phone. Did you notice that most all the "yes" votes for that song were women, and one child? Most all the "no" votes were men. I could go either way with it, but by the time I could pull over to call, it was over. Sigh.

Next time you do it and use that annoying umbrella song, please do so when I'm not driving. ;) Heh. Gawd, I hate that umbrella song.

I like the Delilah song.

It's a terrible song... The lyrics are crap. The only lyrics I've heard worse this year is that Paris Hilton song...

Also, most people are idiots.

Here are the lyrics. What is wrong about them or any line specifically? It tells quite clearly about a long distance relationship and the hope that one day this guy with a dream to make it big as a singer can make it so both of them can be together again. Long distance relationships happen all the time and many have the same kind of yearning this story tells us.

"Hey There Delilah"

Hey there Delilah
What's it like in New York City?
I'm a thousand miles away
But girl tonight you look so pretty
Yes you do
Times Square can't shine as bright as you
I swear it's true

Hey there Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice it's my disguise
I'm by your side

Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me

Hey there Delilah
I know times are getting hard
But just believe me girl
Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar
We'll have it good
We'll have the life we knew we would
My word is good

Hey there Delilah
I've got so much left to say
If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away
I'd write it all
Even more in love with me you'd fall
We'd have it all

Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me

A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us
and we'll just laugh along because we know
That none of them have felt this way
Delilah I can promise you
That by the time we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you're to blame

Hey there Delilah
You be good and don't you miss me
Two more years and you'll be done with school
And I'll be making history like I do
You'll know it's all because of you
We can do whatever we want to
Hey there Delilah here's to you
This ones for you

Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me.

It's not as awful a song as the umbrella song. I'll give it that much. For me, the "Oh it's what you do to me" over and over again is annoying as the singer's voice.

As for the people who voted for the song to be on the radio, they probably aren't on this forum. So, by default, we're right, and they're wrong. :p heh.

It isn't awful. It is overplayed! Every song becomes annoying when it is played continously.

You can say that again, and again, and again and again and again.

That's what I think, too, Hollarey. Just over played. Other than that, perhaps the hook is repeated a little too much as well.

But heh, I am sure this band is humming that hook all the way to the bank and not missing a beat over any objections to it.

Doesn't have to be over played to suck. I thought the "umbrella" song was garbage the first time I heard it :)

Someone obviously liked it considering it reached number 1 in various countries.

The elementary rhymes are what piss me off.

Yes you do
I swear it's true

We'll have it good
My word is good

etc

And yeah, like DougP said (with a different song) I hated this song the very first time I heard it. It's not just simple, it's beyond simple. Dylan did simple right. This is just newbie guitarist sh*t on a stick.

I listen to every part of a song--the guitars, the bass, the drums, and the vocals. If even one part of a song is weak, I can tell pretty quickly.

Before someone gets on my case for perhaps being too picky and/or critical, whatever... I listen to several bands who actually have managed to get it right. You'll rarely hear them on the radio. Most people seem to enjoy crap and don't know what to do the second they hear quality.

I've only heard the umbrella song once (that I remember), and I hate it. Although the annoyance of repeatitive songs repeatedly being played is enough to throw a radio through a window.

I should be so untalented all the way to the bank! At least Simon etal have chosen a few good singers. My favorite one so far, comes from the British version of the show, the opera singer. He's good, even if you don't like opera.

I wouldn't. You did make a good point about the elementary rhymes.

Well the world is filled with idiots like Miss Teen South Carolina so that doesn't supprise me. Doesn't change the fact that the song still sucks

I once went two years without listening to AFN. All I had was the bands I listen to and silence. I will admit that after two years of not hearing any pop whatsoever, when I finally did get AFN pop--or anything English for that matter--was a welcome breath of fresh air. But pop is like candy. If you keep eating nothing but candy you get really really sick.

There's another thing that has always cracked me up with pop. It's when people talk about pop and maybe say "hey, did you hear that song by <insert artist?>" the other person will sometimes say "man, that song is old" even though the song is less than a year old.

That's the difference between pop and quality. Pop can live for a few months and then it just gets rediculously annoying. With quality, you can listen to the same song a dozen times in a month, and it'll never go bad.

Oh, that vid post by Doug was just too sad. I wonder if she listens to the Delilah song, or only pop?

I agree 100% The other sad thing is you don't even have to mention the name of the song by said artist. Cause its the only new song the artist has put out that might be worth playing on the radio.

I miss bands that made great music and great albums. Where every song on the record/ cd was worth listening to. What's the point of buying singles anyway?

That's what I say. If you have to resort to buying singles, the band isn't even worth listening to and you're likely going to get tired of that single within a month anyway.

The only time I even consider buying a single is if I LOVE a song that actually made it onto the radio and that artist hasn't finished his album yet. But it's rare when I actually love anything from the radio.

I don't particularly hate the song...but it's nothing that great either. It is getting overplayed though. I will soon be sick of it because of that.

You mean people actually listen to lyrics!!!!!
Thought I was the only one!!

Make that three:thumbup:

Seriously, that song sucked the first time I heard it too.

I'll be an outcast and admin that I actually love this song. I play guitar and I found the song really fun to play, not cause it's simple, but because of it's complexity. I mean, it's not Yngwie Malmsteen or anything, but it's no Green Day power chord song either.
My wife loves the song because it reminds her of song that I make for her and that we had a similar situation and it brings back memories :)
Yea, the lyrics are simple, but there is nothing wrong with simple.
