The only bull fights I saw while there were in Agena. But this doesn't appear to be there. The bulls fought in a colliseum type arena where they had stone seating.
I went to the arena when I went back after 25 years and they had bleachers. Did not look at all like it was when I was there in 72-73

I wonder if those fights ever still go on? Anytime I went to Agena castle, I saw bulls in the pens, people tending to them...but never a crowd and a fight going on. I want to see one before I leave island in 2010.

From what I have seen on the internet they do still occur, but are stopped before any blood is drawn. Those were powerful animals and I was fascinated at the time and very glad they did not usually get hurt.

The bull fights are actually pretty fun if you go there in the right frame of mind (drunk). It's mostly old people there, and It's not like a person is fighting the bull, 2 bulls fight each other. The horns are filed down, and they kinda just head-butt and body block each other, till one bull runs, but each move brings cheers from the (awamori indulged) crowd. There is even betting going on in the stands. I think they are fun. Kinda like going to an WWF match and seeing Rowdy Roddy Piper take on Dusty Rhodes.
