:scared:

With the recent addition of the ZY'ers over here I hope someone will have an idea.

Ok here is the deal. Toyota 2.0L engine in a caldina. Wife pulls out of the driveway and the car dies. She calls my friend to check it out, and he calls me saying there is a 30A blade fuse in the fuseblock near the battery that is popping. The fuse is labeled AM or AM2. He replaced it and it did it again.

I am not physically there to look at the car, but this seems odd to me that a 30A blade fuse would kill the engine. Do any of you have an educated guess as to what this may go to??? The ignition?? I am stumped, but I will have to start work on this first thing in the AM so that I can try to have the car up again before I go to work.

The battery is good, and I had been driving the car all day...I know that there is some kind of short somewhere, but I am trying to decide where to start looking in the morning.

Thanks in advance!:thumbup1:

I found this thread on a UK forum talking about a camry...does this sound right?

If it's a capacitor it should be an easy fix, just make sure you put it in the correct way. Putting it in backwards wouldn't be good, thats for sure.

I'm hoping that is what it is. I'm trying to track down more info online tonight. I will look at it when I get home tonight, but I don't like making too much noise for my neighbors, so I will probably do most of the work after 7am!

What time do the parts stores open here anyway? 10am? I have never tried going to any of them early in the AM...I just hope this is in stock and not a special order item.

I think autobacs opens up at 10 or 11. I know I've been there on my lunch break which is around 11:30.

I don't usually use AutoBacs (I drive a van and a wagon, not a performance car!)...but I have 2 or 3 other places that I get stuff from. I need to pass by tonight and see if they have their hours posted.

The AM2 fuse is for the ignition. You're not the only person that has had a problem with this fuse blowing. Some other advise thats been suggested would be The AM2 fuse supplies 12 volts to the ignition switch, when the switch is closed current flows through the red/black wire to the coil and the igniter, try disconnecting them one at a time to see which causes the fuse to blow, if the fuse still blows with both disconnected then there is a wiring problem.

Also check the capacitor as mentioned in the link you provided. Both should be fairly simple to do although tracing wires from a fuse box can be a bit tedious. I'm sure someone else can chime in here with some good advise for places to find extra fuses. I used to go to the OEM dealer IE Green Stage for Nissan etc. to get stock replacement parts. The dealers usually had them in stock.

Yeah, I kinda figured I would begin disconnecting everything, then reconnecting one at a time until I find the culprit...just trying to narrow it down as much as possible to help make this go faster.

Thanks Doug!
