Public urination has more acceptance here than in some other countries. You do find some local statutes against it on occasion, but even then they are enforced infrequently. I've seen plenty of taxi drivers taking a slash in the road next to parks, when all they would have to do is walk ten or twelve yards to the public facilities.

I thought it was pretty funny when I first came here. I was told in A-school before coming here that it was a very clean and proper country and that I should be sure to never spit or urinate in public. ON the way to Foster from the airport my first night here, I saw 2 different old guys pissing on the side of the road.

Well most Men's rooms here were built for easy viewing by the public anyways. I always thought that was a little strange. And what's up with the little old cleaning ladies coming right in while you're wizzing and cleaning next to you? What kills me though is the ones with only one toilet at like a retaurant or convenient store and they're so cramped you literally have to stand on the toilet to close the door behind you!

The unisexed bathroom at HR was a bit of a shock at first but no big deal now. I dunno, it was just strange to me to see him pissing out in plain view while stand on the walkway. I understand nature calls and I myself have been on a road trip and went the bathroom on the side of the road. However, I made sure I was at least in some tall grass before popping a squat. I have no issues with urination outside as long as a small tad of modesty is maintained. ::: shrugs ::: It's not a huge deal but I know for sure an American would get in some trouble for doing the same.

Maric Bassett is in deep trouble with both American and Okinawan authorities after he dropped his pants and exposed himself to two girls on an Okinawa City street.

The 26-year-old airman assigned to Kadena Air Base was walking in Nakano Machi, the Okinawa City entertainment district, early Friday morning when police say he suddenly stepped in front of two girls, pulled his pants down to his knees, and exposed himself. “Oh my God,” one girl shouted as the other called police.

Bassett denied to police he was exposing himself to the girls, saying “I just wanted to pee!” Police say the airman was so drunk, his alcohol level was 0.71ml.

The incident came only days after an Okinawa Prefecture employee did the same thing, exposing his naked lower body in front of an Okinawan woman.

I think at Maeda Point it's more common to pee on the floor or walls of the toilet than actually in it. This thread reminds me of the incident I had last summer when I pulled into Kadena Marina and there were 2 Japanese men standing there naked taking showers outside in plain sight of everyone, so it's not just urinating in public.
