Phone hire in Okinawa

Hi All,

I am planning on visiting Okinawa in early Sepember and just wondered if it was worth hiring a mobile ( cell) phone whilst there so we can contact home ( England) or if it was easy to call out from the island.

My reasons were that I had heard it was difficult to contact UK from the Island.

Anyway does anyone have a rough guide to the cost of hiring against the cost of calling from a payphone etc.

Is it worth hiring a phone?

If you're only visiting here for a couple weeks, finding a payphone might be better. If you're staying for months, you could look into a pre-paid type of phone. Sometimes the JU classifieds or Okinawayardsales.com (http://www.okinawayardsales.com) might have a listing of someone giving away their cell phone or selling it cheap, then the only cost is transfer fee.
